Sapulpa Public Schools seeks a passionate energetic team player to work with our students as a secondary counselor.
Job Title: Secondary Counselor
Reports to: Site Administrator(s)
Compensation: Teachers Salary Schedule plus an extra duty contract of two weeks before and one week after the school year.
Overtime Status: Exempt
Salary based on Current NegotiatedTeacher Salary Schedule.
Guidance Counselor
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Assists students in their course and subject selection.
2. Obtain and disseminates occupational/postsecondary information to students and to classes studying occupations.
3. Assist students in evaluating their aptitudes and abilities through the interpretation of individual standardized test scores and other pertinent data and works with students in evolving education and occupation plans in terms of such evaluation.
4. Work to discover and develop the special abilities of students and to resolve students educational handicaps.
5. Register students new to the school and orients them to school procedures and the schools varied opportunities for learning.
6. Work to prevent students from dropping out of school.
7. Help students evaluate career interests and choices.
8. Remain readily available to students so as to provide counseling that will lead each student to increased personal growth selfunderstanding and maturity.
9. Work with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to suchareas as home and family relations health and emotional adjustment.
10. Plan guidance field trips to schools colleges and industry for interested students.
11. Guide students in their participation in school and community activities.
12. Maintain student records and protects their confidentiality.
13. Supervise the preparation and processing of college scholarship and employment applications.
14. Make recommendations to colleges for admissions and scholarships.
15. Provide student information to colleges and potential employers according to provisions of the Boards policy on student records.
16. Meet with parents to discuss enrollment grades and career paths.
17. Assist in the orientation of new faculty members.
18. Provide inservice training in guidance for teachers and student teachers.
19. Work with teachers and other staff members to familiarize them with the general range of services offered by the counseling office.
20. Take an active role in interpreting the schools objectives to students parents and the community at large.
21. Interprets the guidance program to the community.
22. Arrange for summer school work.
23. Collaborate with the school leadership team regarding program development.
24. Coordinate with district test coordinator site state and other diagnostic tests.
25. Perform credit checks for all assigned students.
26. Coordinate and gather information for Special Services (referrals eligibility interventions IEPs and auxiliary services.
27. Network with other counselors.
28. Help coordinate crisis intervention procedures.
29. Assists with special projects as directed by the principal.
30. Perform other related duties as directed by the principal and/or district administrators.

QUALIFICATION: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
1. Bachelors Degree in Education or related field
2. Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate
3. Masters Degree in Counseling or related field
4. Valid Oklahoma School Counselor Certificate or
5. Emergency Certified in School Counseling or
6. Alternative Certification in School Counseling
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Computer literate; excellent written and oral communication ability; strong knowledge of rules regulations policies and laws applicable to education and special education. Ability to follow all district policies and procedures. Ability to work independently displaying initiative and enthusiasm for the tasks being done. Demonstrating strong communication skills orally and in writing with faculty staff team members and administrators. Ability to work without supervision and work as a team player. Ability to document records accurately. Ability to manage confidential information in a manner that respects students families and employees. Ability to listen effectively.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read analyze and interpret common academic journals and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers regulatory agencies or members of the community. Ability to effectively present information to district leaders public groups and/or boards of education.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply intermediate mathematical concepts. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution determination of test reliability and validity.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS/EXPECTATIONS: Develops cooperative and functional relationships with district staff and the public; maintains consistent and punctual attendance; ensures job responsibilities are met competently and within established deadlines.
