Job Description

SPECIAL EDUCATION MULTI DISABLED AIDE

Elementary

Job Code: SS18

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Lee County Board of Education
  2. Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
  3. Must possess one of the following: *Minimum of an Associates Degree or *48 college credits from an accredited college or university or *An appropriate score on the Workkeys to meet the required federal standards under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)
  4. The ability to communicate effectively with students and staff using proper grammar and vocabulary.
  5. Demonstrated aptitude for successful completion of the assigned task.
  6. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Background Check Required: (HB 402 ACT 99361 Alabama Legislature) Upon offer of employment employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

REPORTS TO: School Principal.

JOB GOAL: To work closely with one or a few handicapped students for more than 50 of the school day in an effort to provide them with the physical help and emotional support they need to gain full benefits from the districts special education program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Applicable to All Employees:

  • Attend on a regular and predictable basis.
  • Complete assigned tasks in a safe manner and in a constant state of alertness.
  • Uphold Board policies including the antiharassment program.
  • Work in a cooperative manner with students teachers staff supervisors and the public.
  • Work effectively and efficiently under time and productivity standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assist with implementation of occupational therapy and/or physical therapy recommendations as appropriate.
  2. Assist students with feeding and other associated selfhelp skills.
  3. Assist student with toileting needs (includes changing diapers transferring student from chair/mat to toilet and back again student cleanup after toileting etc..
  4. Assist student with personal hygiene selfhelp skills (ex: brushing teeth combing hair clean up body fluids: nose/mouth etc..
  5. Assist/support student with mobility around school campus.
  6. Assist with transportation of assistive technology devices around school campus.
  7. Hears the student(s) in recitation reading and other curriculum tasks guiding and helping them but not teaching them.
  8. Performs simple errands and tasks for student(s) such as sharpening pencils carrying lunch trays and the like.
  9. Under supervision of the special education teacher works with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
  10. Accompanies the student(s) to whom assigned when trips to the office or to the school nurse are necessary.
  11. Establishes as fully as possible a supportive and sympathetic relationship with the student(s) without fostering or encouraging intense emotional involvement.
  12. Serves as a resource person if and when requested to the student personnel evaluation team conferring about one of the students to whom assigned.
  13. Participates in inservice training programs as assigned.
  14. Perform any other pertinent assignment to assist in the efficiency and effectiveness of the classroom.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally required to stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Mental Functions:While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to compare analyze communicate coordinate instruct compute synthesize evaluate use interpersonal skills and compile. Occasionally required to copy and negotiate.

ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

The environmental demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential responsibilities and functions of the job and are not meant to be all inclusive. Exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses.

Occasional exposure to a variety of weather conditions. Exposure to heated/air conditioned and ventilated facilities. Exposure to a building in which a variety of chemical substances are used for cleaning instruction and/or operation of equipment. Function in a workplace that is usually moderately quiet but that can be noisy at times.

WORK SCHEDULE: The work day shall be established by the building principal but shall not exceed 7.5 hours per day excluding hour for a duty free lunch unless other arrangements are made by the supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a ninemonth contract 182 days). Salary range is based on the board approved salary schedule.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of Support Personnel.
