GUIDANCE COUNSELOR
Description of Position
The Guidance Counselor is responsible for promoting the social emotional moral and mental growth of the students.
Area of Responsibility
Duties include but not limited to the following:
- Develop an exemplary guidance program for school(s)
- Schedule orientation meetings with teachers parents and students to explain guidance services
- Provide both group and individual counseling sessions for all students as appropriate
- Assist with academic and/or personal problems encountered by students
- Provide leadership and direction of district testing programs as directed
- Disseminate counselingguidance information or career information
- Work with support personnel in district
- Participate in conference with parents based on needs of students
- Conduct orientation process for students making transitions from one level to the next e.g. from junior high to high school
- Make students aware of financial aid available and assist students in completing applications for college scholarships and college entrance
- Assist students in making vocational choices and in seeking employment opportunities when appropriate
- Keep cumulative folders current
- Provide leadership in teaching students testtaking strategies
- Perform other duties as assigned by administration
