QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters degree from a recognized accredited college or university with a valid Texas Certificateas a Professional School Counselor;
- A minimum of two 2 years of successful experience as a classroom teacher is required
- A minimum of three 3 years of successful experience as a counselor is preferred;
- Visionary leadership in public schools to work with faculties families and communities of the21stcentury.
- Graduate of the Counselor Leadership Institute preferred.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Probationary/Term Contract: High School 205 days
Salary: $70055 (IA4 with an additional stipend
Salary Range (based on experience) as set by the Board of Trustees
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Coordinating Counselor High School
- Assists in planning and developing the schools education guidance and counseling programinrelation to the needs of the students being served.
- Determines placement for students in courses and special programs and updates student information and schedules to reflect such placement.
- Assists students in developing individual fouryear high school plans.
- Checks students transcripts for correct course placement and accuracy to ensure that state and district requirements are fulfilled before graduation.
- Utilizes computers in jobrelated activities.
- Administers and/or supervises the administration of the standardized testing program of the district and state.
- Interprets results of tests to students parents and professional personnel.
- Maintains individual cumulative folders.
- Conducts registration conferences with parentsand students new to the district for placement decisions easing the transition and interpreting district policies.
- Coordinates Advanced Placement program and administers Advanced Placement tests.
- Assists in the preparation of written reports or surveys that are required by the local school system and/or the Texas Education Agency.
- Provides individual guidance programs with an emphasis on learning appropriate behavior and aiding personal and social development.
- Conducts group guidance programs including orientation educational vocational and career planning.
- Counsels and serves as a resource person for parents on problems affecting the orderly educational physical emotional and social growth of the student.
- Provides crisis counseling and/or consultant services.
- Conferences with students teachers and parents regarding failing grades and assist in finding solutions.
- Explains the role of counselors to appropriate agencies the community and to school staff members.
- Assists in the classroom and/or behavioral management planning with parents and school personnel.
- Organizes and conducts parent meetings when there is an interest or need.
- Plans conducts and/or assists with staff development programs for campusbased and districtwide personnel when appropriate.
- Works closely with the school psychologist homebound teachers diagnostician attendance officer Youth Service specialist and all ancillary personnel to help students with special problems.
- Works cooperatively withand coordinates the use of community referral sources in the prevention and/or intervention of pregnancy drug and child abuse school dropouts runaways etc.
- Works cooperatively with middle school counselors to ease the transition from middle school to senior high school.
- Attends meetings: Counselor Administrative Departmental and Faculty.
- Conducts preregistration of courses for the following year at each grade level.
- Disseminates information to students regarding summer school correspondence and other alternative means of education.
- Plans and coordinates special programs for PSAT SAT and ACT.
- Provides uptodate information oncolleges as well as scholarship and summer programs and maintains college and career information files.
- Assists students with the application process for scholarships colleges and alternative posthigh school training including letters of recommendation.
- Plans and coordinates college night activities.
- Provides information and application for student financial aid in college.
- Works with college admissions counselors in easing the transition from high school to college.
- Reports child abuse cases to the Childrens Protective Services and involves the Youth Service Specialist when necessary.
- Assists the principal with organizing commencement ceremonies.
- Assists the principal with awards night activities.
- Coordinates the special education referral process and writes the referral committee report.
- Serves as chairperson for Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings.
- Fosters team building among counselors. Encourages their active involvement in the decisionmaking process.
- Provides twoway communication with campus principal staff students parents and community.
- Communicates and promotes expectations for highlevel performance to counselors and students. Recognizes excellence and achievements.
- Ensures the effective and quick resolution of conflicts.
- Identifies analyzes and applies research findings to promote school improvement.
- Assists with interviewing selecting and orientation of new counselors.
- Observes counselor performance record observations and contribute to the annual evaluation of counselors on campus.
- Supervises operations in the counseling office.
- Complies with district policies and state and federal laws and regulations. Trains campus counselors and ensures their strict adherence to the policies laws and regulations.
- Displays excellent skills with the use of technology.
- Works with each counselor and registrar to accurately maintain each students cumulative folder.
- Demonstrates professional ethical and responsible behavior. Serves as a role model for all campus counselors.
- Demonstrates awareness of school and community needs and initiates activities to meet those needs.
- Uses appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
- Maintains emotional control under stress and frequent and irregular hours.
- Carries out other guidance responsibilities as assigned by the principal and/or director of guidance.
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.
