Job Description

Summer Paid Student Internship Program

AREAS OF FOCUS:
Electrical HVAC Turf Management Warehouse Logistics Public Relations Technology

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Students must be at least 16 years old and enrolled in James F. Byrnes High School

  • Reliable transportation to and from work sites within the district

  • Parental/guardian permission required

  • Commitment to responsible behavior and adherence to all district safety protocols

REPORTS TO:DepartmentSpecific Supervisor (e.g. District Electrician HVAC Technician IT Coordinator PR Officer Grounds Supervisor)

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Spartanburg District Five is offering a paid summer internship opportunity designed to provide high school students with handson experience across various career pathways. Interns will engage in projectbased realworld learning while contributing to key district operations under the supervision of experienced professionals.These internships aim to spark interest in highdemand fields while promoting the development of essential workplace skills such as problemsolving communication and dependability.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Electrical & HVAC

    • Assist with inspection cleaning and basic maintenance of district systems

    • Learn to read labels schematics and use tools properly

    • Support material transport and job site setup

    • Observe troubleshooting processes and repairs (under supervision)

    Turf Management

    • Assist with mowing edging watering and turf repair on athletic and common areas

    • Operate basic landscape tools and equipment (with supervision)

    • Support safe chemical handling and irrigation practices

    Warehouse Logistics

    • Help receive inventory store and distribute supplies

    • Assist with preparing and loading deliveries to district sites

    • Maintain clean and organized workspaces

    Public Relations

    • Support content creation (social media newsletters photos video)

    • Attend district events to gather media or provide assistance

    • Help maintain district communication databases and digital archives

    Technology

    • Assist with basic tech troubleshooting device setup and inventory

    • Support software updates and hardware checks

    Learn about network systems security protocols and digital tools

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Internships may involve both indoor and outdoor work environments and can include various physical tasks. Participants should expect to stand walk bend and lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Interns will not be permitted to handle hazardous materials or perform any skilled work without supervision. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided as needed to ensure safety and all interns are required to wear appropriate attire including closedtoe shoes.
