230 Days. Starting salary $65000 more based on experience includes benefits

CLASS TITLE: ATHLETIC TRAINER

CLASS CODE: 7273

REPORT TO/EVALUATED BY: Principal or Designee

BASIC FUNCTION: Assist in providing the fullest possible athletic opportunity for each student by reducing healthrelated barriers to athletic performance. Offer specific care to student athletes within the permitted scope of practice including but not limited to; administering first aid treatment and rehabilitation of sportsrelated injuries according to established procedures preparing and maintaining accurate student medical records working to reduce healthrelated barriers student athletes may encounter.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

  • Establish an effective athletic training program for high school athletics.
  • Provide first aid and injury assessment treatment rehabilitation and reconditioning for student athletes.
  • Provide coverage and supervision at home athletic events practices and designated away events from beginning of the fall sports season to the conclusion of the spring season.
  • Coordinate the annual required athletic physicals and supervise the clearance of injured athletes prior to and during the sport seasons.
  • Initiate administer and supervise an athletic training studentaide program in accordance with the schools clubs and activities guidelines and state law.
  • Maintain a line of communication with the team physician(s) regarding athletic health care and recommended treatment/rehabilitation for all athletic injuries.
  • Assist coaching staff in evaluating and implementing sportspecific conditioning programs and methods.
  • Be responsible for implementing teaching and practicing the Emergency Action Plans with each coaching staff and emergency response team before the start of each sports respective season.
  • Maintain communication with parents on the care and treatment of their student athlete.
  • File all necessary reports associated with athletic injuries and/or incidents.
  • Maintain a daily treatment log.
  • Oversee the ordering of supplies and equipment pertaining to the athlete training room and maintain and date inventory. Provide the Athletic Director with an annual budget for supplies and equipment.
  • Equip each team with appropriate medical equipment.
  • Assist in the selection and fitting of protective equipment including special taping pad or braces.
  • Create a safe playing environment by monitoring and controlling environmental risks.
  • Develop and conduct professional development for coaches as required; share appropriate literature regarding athletic training with the coaching staff.
  • Carry out other professional responsibilities including punctuality reliability care of equipment and material planning communication confidentiality following the district and school policies the Employee Handbook the Code of Ethics for School Personnel and the Kentucky Revised Statute.
  • Strict adherence to the Policies and Procedures of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association and the Danville School District Board of Education.
  • Fulfill contractual obligation in regards to days and hours worked.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises athletic training student aids and student athletes in their care when receiving medical assistance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors degree in Athletic Training or related medical field.
  • Current certification and continuing education requirements as set forth by the National Athletic Trainers Association and Board of Certification
  • Current Athletic Training License from the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure
  • Valid CPR/Emergency Cardiac Care certification

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand and talk or hear and sometimes walk and sit. Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person. While performing the duties of this job the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 pounds. The employee is directly responsible for safety wellbeing or work output of other people. The job requires exposure in an outside environment with extreme weather and temperature changes as well as occasional walks on slippery surfaces.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus. The position required the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. Duties are performed indoors and occasionally outdoors.
