Job Description

School Year **1 Year Only**

Summary

Performs complex administrative professional and technical work supporting the principal in the overall administration leadership and daytoday operations of a school. Ensures a positive safe and effective learning environment for students and staff members. Performs all other work as required.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as acting principal during the building principals absence.
  • Oversees and manages 504 plans for students.
  • Monitors and addresses student behavior enforces school policies and implements discipline plans.
  • Works with teachers counselors and parents to support students academic and behavioral success.
  • Coordinates and promotes Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
  • Assists the building principal with staff meetings team leader meetings and Parent Student Council meetings.
  • Supports the principal in creating and sending out newsletters for parents and staff.
  • Coordinates and delivers daily morning announcements.
  • Observes and evaluates professional staff and supervises staff and building substitutes.
  • Assists with public relations.
  • Attends afterschool events such as band choir and drama performances.
  • Creates and implements the teacher duty schedule; oversees student placement and creates student schedules.
  • Assists with PTA initiatives and schoolrelated activities during and after school hours.
  • Works with directors to align curriculum goals and standards.
  • Plans and implements safety drills; collaborates with Windam Police and Fire Departments to establish the school safety plan.
  • Assists in the selection of school personnel.
  • Manages morning and afterschool car and bus duty and addresses all busrelated concerns.
  • Serves as a bridge between the school families and the community to foster strong relationships.
  • Share school goals policies and student progress with stakeholders.
  • Develops and implements strategies to enhance student success and overall school performance.
  • Represents the school on districtwide committees as requested.
  • Performs similar or related work as required directed or as the situation dictates.

Minimum Qualifications

State of New Hampshire Certification required as outlined by the New Hampshire Department of Education.

Masters Degree in M. ED or Ed.S. or a related field; five yearsof educational experience elementary level preferred with three years supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge Ability Skill

Knowledge: Knowledge of applicable curriculum. Thorough knowledge of relevant finance laws. Thorough knowledge of office procedures practices and terminology. Thorough knowledge of departmental operations. Knowledge of the operation of computer software applications.

Ability: Ability to communicate and work effectively with students and staff. Ability to plan organize provide leadership and anticipate problems. Ability to lead and direct the work of others. Ability to supervise and evaluate personnel. Ability to work independently and with others in a variety of circumstances. Ability to handle behavior issues.

Skills: Proficient in technology and collecting and analyzing data effectively. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Strong organizational skills.

Supervision

Received: Works under the direction of the Building Principal.

Exercised: Supervises teachers and substitutes.

Responsibility: Performs varied and responsible duties requiring a thorough knowledge of District operations and work involves the exercise of considerable independent judgment and initiative particularly in situations not clearly defined by precedent or established procedures.

Job Environment

  • Work is performed under typical office conditions; the noise level is moderately noisy.
  • Operates computer calculator copier facsimile machine and other standard office equipment.
  • Contacts are by phone in writing by email and in person; they generally consist of an information exchange dialogue discussing routine and semicomplex issues.
  • Employee may have access to all departmental confidential information.
  • Employee has contact with school staff students parents applicants and the public.
  • Errors could result in delays in service and have possible financial and/or legal repercussions.

Physical Requirements

(The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

This position frequently requires sitting communicating or hearing; occasionally requires walking; must be able to handle or feel objects tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 30 pounds. Vision and hearing are at or correctable to normal ranges. This position requires the ability to operate a keyboard and calculator at an efficient speed.
