Job Duties
Analyze data from the Department of Juvenile Justice and the Compensation Board to identify potential JJDP Act violations;
Review detention logs from lockups court holding facilities jails and other facilities;
Maintain Virginias monitoring universe and ensuring proper classification of nonsecure and secure facilities;
Monitor select facilities for compliance with the core requirements of the JJDP Act.
Coordinate the reporting of all compliance monitors;
Participate in policy discussions both internally and with outside constituents which drive funding and training decisions;
Assist with identifying and facilitating solutions to JJDP Act compliance issues;
Attend regular meetings of the Virginia Juvenile Detention Association and other stakeholder groups as requested;
Provide regular reports on compliance to an advisory committee and any relevant subcommittees; and
Submit the states compliance report to the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP).
Minimum Qualifications
Documented experience applying policy and regulations;
Documented experience in providing technical assistance;
Documented professional experience in the juvenile justice or related field;
Documented experience analyzing data from multiple sources;
Demonstrated competence in the use of computers including a basic knowledge of Windows applications.
Demonstrated ability to define problems and apply problemsolving techniques;
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues;
Demonstrated ability to meet critical deadlines handle multiple assignments and ensure timeliness and quality of completed assignments;
Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse constituent base;
Documented experience in working both as an active and contributing team member as well as independently;
Ability to articulate both orally and in written form clear and concise findings in reports and other documents and in front of diverse audience; and
Ability to think strategically and cross culturally and independently implement new initiatives and projects.
Additional Considerations
A law enforcement background or experience working with law enforcement personnel;
Knowledge of criminal and juvenile justice facility operations;
Considerable knowledge of the juvenile justice and criminal justice systems state federal and local; and
Considerable knowledge of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974 as amended.

The anticipated starting salary range is $36.00 to $40.50 per hour up to 29 hours per week 1500 hours per wage year).
