Job Description

Vintage Books an imprint of the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group seeks a Publishing Associate to support the SVP Deputy Publisher and occasionally the Associate Publisher for Backlist in a fastpaced environment. This position offers a unique perspective on the strategy and operations of Vintage Books; it is an excellent opportunity to continue your exposure to all areas of the publishing process.

The Publishing Associate will be a highly motivated and enthusiastic selfstarter who is detailoriented and loves books of all types. An interest in working with various departmentsincluding Editorial Managing Editorial Sales and Publicityto bring books to a wide readership is essential. The successful candidate will be a creative analytical thinker who is comfortable performing typical administrative and project management duties while demonstrating the ability to take initiative and exercise independent thinking where needed. A genuine interest in book publishing and reading is strongly preferred.

Dedicated to publishing the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Groups titles in paperback Vintage is an industryleading paperback publisher with authors including Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Margaret Atwood James Baldwin Dan Brown David Grann Kazuo Ishiguro Jhumpa Lahiri Cormac McCarthy Toni Morrison Haruki Murakami Edward W. Said and Colson Whitehead among many others. Vintage also publishes a select number of paperback originals.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Research and create detailed sales and inventory reporting to help inform publishing decisions including listbuilding; provide individual title sales and author sales history as needed and frontlist laydown information; and more
  • Create and distribute weekly monthly and seasonal reports and / or updates (weekly pointofsale report media tiein grid and newsletter anniversary grid)
  • Core member of media tiein team: maintain media tiein grid assist with outreach to studios coordinate tiein sticker process
  • Assist with researching competition for timing and pricing recommendations for frontlist and backlist books
  • Attend backlist reprint meetings and manage queries and followups with other departments
  • Update metadata (descriptive copy keywords etc. including Web copy for select titles
  • Handle special projects to support the overall efforts of the imprint
  • Assist Deputy Publisher in preparation for weekly and seasonal meetings
  • Schedule department meetings coordinate meeting agendas gather meeting materials
  • Overall/catchall admin for the department process expense reports order books etc.

Please apply if you meet the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of one year of experience working in book publishing or a related industry like media literary agency or entertainment preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate appropriately across all levels and divisions of the company as well as with external parties
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and set priorities
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office Programs particularly Excel as well as an ability to pick up new systems quickly
  • Interest in sales research and sales analysis a plus

The salary for this position is $56000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus subject to Company results.

This is a hybrid position with an expectation to be in the office approximately three days per week. We will consider candidates who can commute to our office at 1745 Broadway which includes the tristate area (NJ CT & PA).
