The Ministry of Jobs Economy and Trade is looking for a strategic leader to manage Albertas Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Workers Compensation Board (WCB) Policy and Legislation Team.
Reporting to the Director of OHS and WCB Policy and Legislation the Manager will lead a team of professionals responsible for the development and maintenance of the OHS and workers compensation legislation. This position will lead a team of policy analysts to provide strategic advice technical analysis and interpretation and issues management related to OHS and workers compensation policy and legislation.
The Manager will work with the Director to develop stakeholderresponsive policy and legislation and help steer proposed legislation through approval processes. The position will help lead stakeholder engagement or public consultation. The Manager will liaise with internal and external stakeholders to understand workplace issues or provide OHS or workers compensation expertise. Additionally they will lead crossdivisional projects related to the interpretation and application of OHS or workers compensation legislation.
The Manager demonstrates effective leadership with a focus on advancing staff engagement and development.
The successful candidate must possess the following skills:
- Thorough understanding of OHS and WCB legislation or ability to quickly acquire expertise.
- Strong ability to interpret and apply legislation and provide recommendations on sensitive policy issues.
- Knowledge of government decisionmaking and policy development process as well as public consultation processes.
- Strong research skills and the ability to proactively monitor and conduct strategic analysis of OHS or workers compensation trends andmake sense of and communicate large and complex information under tight deadlines.
- Exceptional relationshipbuilding and communications skills including excellent listening skills superior writing ability organizational and presentation skills.
- Ability to simultaneously manage a wide variety of projects and processes in achieving the divisions goals and strategies.
- Demonstrated leadership experience with excellent change management coaching and mentorship capability.
- Strong leadership skills to develop an engaged and high performing team enabling a culture where feedback is given and accepted at all levels to promote learning and growth.

Qualifications
Education:
- University degree in a related field and four years of recent related experience developing policy or interpreting and applying legislation is required. Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience mentoring and coaching individuals is also required.

- Knowledge of government decisionmaking and policy development process and procedures including public consultation processes legislative/committee processes.
- Ability to simultaneously manage a wide variety of projects and processes in achieving the divisions goals and strategies.
- Experience effectively leading teams using collaboration change management and performance management principles.

There is one permanent fulltime position working for 36.25 hours per week Monday to Friday in either Edmonton or Calgary.
