SUMMARY:
The school counselor advocates for and supports all students in their personal social academic and career development. This is accomplished through a variety of approaches including but not limited to delivery of guidance curriculum in various groups sizes to support student development; individual and group counseling; individual student planning and goalsetting activities; consultation and coordination activities to support student success and effective interpretation of student assessment data.

- Coordinate the collaboration of assigned vertical and horizontal systems to support high student achievement and customer satisfaction.
- Communicate and collaborate between and among various areas of the organization to provide enhanced service delivery program development and customer satisfaction.
- Manage and lead the counseling program by planning organizing implementing and delivering program activities to improve students Intrapersonal Effectiveness Interpersonal Effectiveness Personal Health and Safety and PostSecondary Planning and Readiness
- Deliver classroom guidance activities by teaching the school guidance curriculum components through the use of effective instructional skills and intentionally planned structured group sessions for students based on campus needs
- Implement the individual student planning component by guiding individuals and groups of students and parents or guardians through the development of educational career personal or social plans
- Provide responsive service component services through effective use of individual and group counseling consultation and referral skills
- Provide system support component activities through effective school counseling program management and support for other educational programs
- Serve as a consultant to teachers who conduct lessons based on the schools/Districts guidance curriculum
- Clearly articulate and communicate the counseling programs management system and related program action plans to administration staff parents and the community
- Demonstrate ethical and professional behaviors and standards as set forth by the American Counseling Association the American School Counselor Association and the state of Texas
- Act as a student advocate leader collaborator and systems change agent
- Assist students and their parents or guardians in monitoring their academic career personal and social development as they progress in school
- Collaborate with administration in the coordination and implementation of school programs that address students educational career personal and social development
- Inform and consult with the counseling program advisory council in its role in planning and implementing the counseling program
- Guide and advise students and their parents/guardians regarding the importance of higher education coursework designed to prepare students for higher education and financial aid availability and requirements
- Provide guidance to assigned counseling aides and counseling assistants.
- Conduct an annual campus counseling program evaluation
- Provide parent and staff training and consultation to foster student educational career personal and social development
- Advocate for a school environment that acknowledges and respects diversity.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with administrators teachers other school personnel parents and community members.
- Pursue professional development activities that align with District goals and initiatives and current professional research.
- Comply with all policies operating procedures legal requirements and verbal and written directives.
- Comply with the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
- Perform other related comprehensive school counseling program assignments
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of comprehensive school counselor program procedures intervention skills student appraisal and career development
- Knowledge of academic programs policies and procedures
- Knowledge of TEA/federal related rules regulations and procedures
- Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
- Skill in conducting team efforts to design implement measure and refine programs and services
- Skill in communicating effectively with parents students staff and community
- Skill in implementing integration and interaction of vertical and horizontal systems to guarantee the support of high student achievement and customer satisfaction
- Skill in analyzing complex information
- Skill in making oral and written presentations
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- Masters Degree
- Valid Texas Counselor Certificate
Experience:
- Two 2 years successful teaching experience
MENTAL/PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
- Maintain emotional control under stress
- Work with frequent interruptions
- Occasional prolonged and irregular hours
