About this Job
This is a Rehabilitation Counselor--Entry position is responsible for performing casework in a caseload utilizing skills and techniques which enable a person with a disability to successfully interface with his/her total environment in the community and obtain maintain and advance in employment. Travel may be required for this position and must be performed as needed.
The Office of Workforce Development (OWD) is a key division of the Louisiana Workforce Commission managing programs in workforce training job placement apprenticeships and business engagement. Minimum Qualifications
A bachelors degree plus one year of experience in rehabilitation services social services administrative services therapy services or nursing; OR
A bachelors degree in a rehabilitation field a social sciences field social work education nursing health and human services speech therapy or business administration; OR

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
- Schedules interviews to assess functional limitations and vocational potential of possible rehabilitation consumers.
- Determines eligibility for rehabilitation services after reviewing comprehensive medical and psychosocial evaluations.
- Coordinates consumers plan of rehabilitation to include agreements providing vocational guidance and counseling training programs and other needed services utilizing available resources to achieve maximum rehabilitation.
- Maintains knowledge of accommodations/technology to remove or eliminate barriers to employment.
- Interacts with the consumer to assess his/her needs and problems to determine the best solution vocationally and socially and assists the consumer with improving interpersonal skills understanding the labor market and achieving successful employment.
- Provides counseling to consumers family members and significant others concerning the vocational plan services provided and the expected outcome.
- Maintains adequate caseload flow and organization.
- Schedules supervisory meetings with the consumer returns phone calls processes mail and is responsible for the appropriate expenditure of public funds.
- Maintains an extensive network of employer contacts and labor market information to assist consumers in achieving employment.
- Meets with professionals from other agencies the private sector and educators and maintains working knowledge of a wide array of resources.
- Other duties as assigned and travel to be performed as needed.
Position-Specific Details:
Location:Metairie LA (Jefferson Parish)
Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a Probational or a Job Appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a Promotion (open to all statewide classified and agency-wide permanent status employees); or by Detail to Special Duty. Current permanent status classified employees may be required to accept a Probational appointment if selected. If filled as a Job Appointment there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.This position participates in a Career Progression Group (CPG) and may be filled as a Rehabilitation Counselor-Entry or Rehabilitation Counselor at which the vacancy filled will be determined by the qualifications of the candidate selected. This position is an opportunity to advance within this job series. The actual starting salary depends on the education and experience of the selected applicant.
