Learning and Development Specialist

Full Time Term To September 30 2025

It is the mission of Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) to provide Inuitspecific programs that contribute to the health and wellbeing of Inuit and to encourage and support similar programs for Inuit across the country. With over 30 years of highly successful experience in crafting the design development and delivery of a wide range of effective clientcentered services TI continues to deliver quality programs and services that directly benefit our growing urban Inuit population.

Under the direction of the Director Employment & Education the Learning & Development Specialist will support the members of the Tungasuvvingat Inuit (TI) management team in the process of learning & development initiatives. The Learning & Development Specialist will be responsible for the design development and delivery of various learning solutions or programs which support TIs overall business objectives and learning and development strategy. The scope of delivery includes research coordination and delivery of learning solutions as well as monitoring evaluating recording training activities and determining program effectiveness. Help train employees to do their jobs efficiently and keep up to date with the latest industry trends and advances. Explore learning and development opportunities provide support for Ottawa Urban Inuit to advance their skills in further education and employment readiness.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely within the Employment & Education and Leadership Teams to identify training and development needs within the organization through job analysis and regular consultation with program managers focused on the 8 guiding principles Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit.
  • To develop short and longterm learning solutions or programs (such as technical skills training behavioral training leadership programs etc. that support the achievement of organizational goals and objectives of the Strategic Plan.
  • Design and deliver learning solutions and programs using a variety of tools and methods these include eLearning webinars inperson classroom sessions Virtual instructor led sessions to achieve desired business outcomes.
  • Monitor and measure learning outcomes as well as adjust solutions or programs based on changing needs to drive continuous improvement.
  • Actively contribute to the development and maintenance of a learning culture within the organization.
  • Develop and deliver TIs Cultural Competency training.
  • Deliver culturally relevant and appropriate presentations to the general public various stakeholders and the Ottawa Urban Inuit. Ensure that all existing employees and new hires complete the training requirements schedule refresher training for all staff.
  • Assist in the design and lead the implementation of talent management and organizational development initiatives and practices related to employee engagement employee recognition career and leadership development and process improvement that support current and future strategic goals.
  • Engage with the Ottawa Urban Inuit population on learning & development needs.
  • Prepare literature news releases features and materials to promote TI programs services events and corporate achievements to multiple audiences including clients media Ottawa and regional general public funders partner organizations and government departments.
  • Work on special projects as required.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have knowledge of Inuit culture values Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and traditional practices.

Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders is required. Must possess ability to work independently in a highly collaborative dynamic team diverse environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills presentation skills research skills and influencing and facilitation skills organizational problemsolving and project management skills are required. Ability to draft documents and develop programs consistent with organizational approaches is required. The ideal candidate must be technology savvy and ability to explore and gain mastery of a variety of IT tools. Strong

Completion of Secondary School is required. Community College in Education and Training or related discipline is Preferred.

Two plus years experience is required in working with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and eLearning content development. Prior experience with various methods of learning delivery such as elearning instructorled training trainthetrainer etc. is preferred.

Proficient use of MS Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook videoconferencing platforms and electronic records management applications is required. Clear Vulnerable Sector Check with results acceptable to TI is preferred. Inuktitut language skills is preferred. The ability to travel within Ontario is required.

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary Range is between $80000 to $90000
