Position Summary:

The City of Regina has an exciting opportunity for an individual with lived experience of disability who is passionate about recreation and community inclusion. We are seeking an experienced recreational programmer who is eager to make a meaningful impact by advancing accessible and inclusive services. While this is a fulltime position flexible work arrangements are available to accommodate individual accessibility needs.

As the Program Specialist Adaptive Services you will lead the development and delivery of a variety of accessible recreation and leisure programs tailored to meet the diverse needs of people with disabilities. Reporting to the Inclusive Recreation Advisor you will help ensure that all Regina residents can participate fully in community life. This position supports the implementation of the Citys Adapted Recreation Plan by identifying and removing barriers to participation. It reflects our commitment to ensuring that all residents have access to recreation and leisure and can make informed choices that support their physical mental and emotional wellbeing.

The successful candidate will have experience with disability either through personal lived experience as an individual with a disability or through direct experience as a parent caregiver or similar capacity. This experience should provide an understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by individuals with disabilities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure accessible and inclusive programs for people with disabilities.
  • Facilitate the development of communitybased sport culture and recreation programs through partnerships with local organizations.
  • Liaise with community groups public sector partners user groups schools and other City departments to promote recreation services.
  • Lead the planning coordination and evaluation of recreation programs using a structured program planning cycle.
  • Support long and shortrange plans for inclusive and adapted recreation within the department.
  • Assist in creating policies and procedures related to programming and scheduling.
  • Coordinate and facilitate special events and community projects.
  • Represent the department at public and community meetings.
  • Provide training and orientation to staff and volunteers on accessibility and inclusion.
  • Hire supervise schedule and evaluate casual staff and contracted support workers.
  • Oversee registration processes and monitor service accessibility.
  • Manage program equipment and supplies including repairs and purchases.
  • Conduct program research evaluation and reporting.
  • Collaborate with various City facilities and program staff to develop adapted programs and ensure program quality.
  • Respond to public inquiries and concerns through monitored communication channels.
  • Assist with budget preparation and monitor expenditures.
  • Provide input on accessibility in facility planning and development.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.

Qualifications:

Knowledge Abilities and Skills

  • Strong understanding of disability culture and inclusive recreation best practices.
  • Knowledge of antioppression community development and program evaluation principles.
  • Proficient in relevant computer applications (e.g. scheduling word processing).
  • Familiarity with Occupational Health and Safety standards.
  • Proven leadership and staff supervision skills.
  • Experience planning and facilitating adapted recreation activities.
  • Effective communication problemsolving and relationshipbuilding skills.
  • Ability to support crosscultural communities and facilitate inclusive dialogue.
  • Teamoriented with a commitment to collaboration and shared success.

Education and Experience:

  • Completion of a twoyear diploma in Recreation or a related field or two years of postsecondary education in a degree program in Kinesiology Recreation or a related field.
  • Three to five years of experience in developing and delivering recreation leisure or social programs for people with disabilities.
  • Must have experience with disability either through personal lived experience as an individual with a disability or through direct experience as a parent caregiver or similar capacity.

Working/Other Conditions:

  • Must have the means and ability to travel within the City of Regina including traveling to and between multiple sites during the workday.
  • May be required to work evenings or weekends.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful candidates may be required to provide a satisfactory criminal record check per the City of Reginas Criminal Record Check Policy.
  • Proof of education is required.
  • Additional assessments may be conducted to evaluate competencies skills and knowledge.
