Junior Claims Underwriter Property

Based in London and reporting to the Head of Property and Inwards Reinsurance Claims Hamilton Global Specialty this role will be responsible for claims handling of the Property and Inwards Reinsurance Claims portfolio in particular the Property Binders. Other Property classes of business may be involved such as Direct and Facultative and other classes as required from time to time.

Hamilton Global Specialty is our multiplatform specialty insurer operating primarily through a Lloyds Syndicate and Dublin operating company with a managing general agency in the US.

What you will do

• Adjust claims within the Claims Authority in accordance with Hamiltons Claims Philosophy and Claims Protocols and Lloyds Lead Claims Arrangements
• Responsible for the handling of the Property Binder claims
• Work closely with and support the Underwriting teams whose claims you handle including regular updates and the provision of renewal information when required
• Work closely with brokers and clients in resolving their claims
• Liaise with follow and colead markets including arranging and hosting where necessary or attending market meetings
• Responsible for instructing and managing lawyers and experts where appropriate to assist in the determination of coverage or assessing quantum or handling any dispute as it may arise
• Handling and processing of monthly claims bordereaux
• Review loss fund adequacy and assist Hamiltons Claims Operations department in the recovery of loss funds on prior years
• Ensure that Hamiltons Reserving Philosophy is applied and that all claims reserving is undertaken in a consistent timely and accurate manner
• Escalate large or complex claims up through the Claims Department as required and to complete Executive Claims Summaries when appropriate
• Report appropriate claims on a timely basis to the Outwards Reinsurance department and to assist with recoveries from reinsurers where necessary
• Any ad hoc task that is required by management

What you require for the role

• 12 years experience within the market handling property binders and general property claims
• Strong MS Office skills particularly Excel
• Highly analytical and numerate with excellent attention to detail
• A willingness to work in a responsive collaborative and efficient manner
• Ability to work on your own and as part of a team
• Flexibility to work within multiple platforms
