Job Description

Paralympics Australia (PA) one of the most respected and wellloved brands in Australian sport is inviting expressions of interest for the role of Chief Medical Officer for the Winter Paralympic Games Milan Cortina 2026. This is a unique opportunity to contribute your expertise to a highperformance team and support some of the nations most inspiring athletes on the world stage.

About the Role

As the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) you will play a pivotal role as the trusted medical advisor to the Chef de Mission and all key areas of the Australian Winter Paralympic Team. Youll be instrumental in shaping health wellbeing and performance strategies that support our athletes and staff in achieving their best on the world stage.

This role requires strong leadership and accountability with key responsibilities including:

  • Providing expert medical advice to Australian Paralympic Team to enhance the performance health and holistic wellbeing of Australian Paraathletes and officials
  • Driving the development and delivery of proactive teamwide wellbeing strategies across the campaign lifecyclefrom preparation through to postGames support
  • Work with Paralympics Australia to development of appropriate medical protocols and policies.
  • Develop specific parasport resources and actively share with the broader Australian sports medicine community.
  • Assist parasports or athletes with sports medicine advice/triage as required.
  • Lead the provision of medical services at the 2026 Winter Paralympic Games HQ.

Act as a key contact and support communication between PA and CMOs at the IPC Snow Australia Olympic Winter Institute of Australia AOC AIS NIN and NSOs.

About You

Were seeking someone with:

  • Extensive experience within Australias highperformance sport system with a strong track record of collaboration in multidisciplinary teams alongside elite coaches and athletes.
  • Thorough knowledge of antidoping regulations including therapeutic use exemptions.
  • Understanding and experience in working across Paralympic sports and directly with athletes with disabilities.
  • Proven track record of leading teams effectively in highpressure fastpaced environments.
  • Proven experience supporting teams at international competitions including attendance at the Olympic Games Paralympic Games Commonwealth Games or other major sporting events in a professional capacity.

Time Commitment

The role will require a flexible but consistent commitment from April 2025 through to the end of April 2026 including:

  • Approximately two days per month (remote work possible) to coordinate and prepare the medical components of the Australian Paralympic Team in collaboration with the PA Performance Services Lead as well as employees from Paralympics Australia and Snow Australia
  • Attendance at the PA Team Processing Day on 30 April 2025
  • Participation in domestic Winter training camps in 2025 to conduct medical screening and build rapport with athletes likely to be selected for the 2026 Australian Team
  • Ontheground presence at the Milan Cortina Paralympic Winter Games in March 2026

Qualifications

Current and appropriate professional indemnity insurance.

  • AHPRA registered medical practitioner.
  • Current CPR certificate and Working with Children Check.
  • Fellowship of the Australasian College of Sport & Exercise Physicians (FACSEP).
  • Have completed the ASADA Level 1 AntiDoping Level 2 (current year).
  • AntiDoping and Medical Practitioner and Athlete Support Personnel courses.
  • Current Working with Childrens Check and completion of key sport integrity training courses.
