Salary: Level 3 Step 1 $2252.25 biweekly

Reporting to the Kajitin Zho Evening Supervisor the Youth Support Worker is tasked with the frontline delivery of planned and scheduled programs and activities for youth ages 8 30 years. The recreational cultural and social programs help youth gain: personal competencies (i.e. life skills) selfconfidence and selfawareness social and relationship skills conflict resolution capabilities problemsolving and leadership skills and opportunities to learn traditional knowledge and explore TH culture. Programming is based out of Kajitin Zho (Youth House) and delivered from various venues including: the Chief John Jonas Support Centre community facilities ontheland camps and occasionally in other Yukon communities. The incumbent works very closely with the youth to establish trust and provide support guidance and mentorship as well as ensure that daily programming activities are effectively organized and delivered.

An Eligibility List may be established from this competition the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent fulltime permanent parttime temporary fulltime temporary parttime term or auxiliary oncall vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications:

    • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent combined with coursework or training in mental health community work youth work or in a related field. An equivalent combination of education knowledge skills and experience may be considered.
    • Experience working with children youth or young adults and leading activities recreational programs and/or group excursions.
    • Sound understanding of the socialemotional and developmental challenges faced by youth such as substance use sexuality and risky behaviors.
    • Ability to provide strong mentorship and act as a positive role model.
    • Knowledge of or willingness to learn TH government structure culture traditions history demographics family structures socioeconomic dynamics and the impacts of residential schools on youth and their families and communities.
    • Knowledge of or willingness to learn basic Han language words and phrases.
    • Ability to set healthy boundaries and remain professional.
    • Ability toestablish and maintain effective relationships with youth / students parents / guardians families and community members.

    Conditions of Employment:

    • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
    • Standard First Aid certification.
    • Class 5 drivers license and clear Drivers Abstract.
    • Class 4 license or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire an asset.
    • Food Safe and WHMIS certificates.
    • TH101 cultural awareness training.
