Job Description
The Department of Architecture within the College of Engineering Technology and Architecture CETA at the University of Hartford seeks a fulltime tenuretrack faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor with the responsibility to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Structures and Architectural Design or Sustainable Technology.
Responsibilities
Candidates should have knowledge and expertise in the eld of structures innovative structural design integrated building systems and sustainable construction materials and building. Candidates should show a willingness and ability to employ stateoftheart simulation software and technology in teaching structural design courses. Teaching load is 18 credits per academic year. Successful candidates for this position will teach one or more sections of ADT 355 Strength of Materials ADT 474 Design of Steel and Wood Structures ADT 484 Design of Reinforced Structures and ARC 523 Advanced Structural Systems. Opportunity exists to teach a graduatelevel design studio dependent on the candidates qualifications and experience. All faculty are expected to remain active in creative/scholarly pursuits and seek opportunities for professional development and/or peerreviewed publications. Signicant opportunities exist for research collaboration with faculty members within the Department of Architecture CETA and across the University as well as industrial partners. The University College CETA and Department of Architecture are committed to nurturing the career development of faculty. The recently completed stateoftheart Hursey Center provides research support for architecture engineering and technology scholarship including focused labs for highbay structural engineering concrete surveying and 3D printing as well as maker spaces. All faculty are expected to contribute and participate in department and school committees advise students and contribute to student recruitment and retention. Furthermore all faculty should have the capacity to support and enhance diverse learning and/or working environments.
Required Qualifications
Required: A masters degree in architecture (. OR a professional degree in architecture (. or comparable professional degree and a graduate degree in architecture structural engineering civil engineering or another allied field (M.S. M.A. or other related graduate degree). Applicant has teaching experience in Structures Engineering or Construction Technology courses at the college level. Applicant has practical experience in at least one of the following: innovative building construction sustainable design or construction technology. Applicant demonstrates a promising scholarly focus and trajectory. Applicant exhibits excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Preferred: Applicant has experience or has interest in teaching courses in Social Justice or Underserved Populations Issues in Architecture sustainable design technology structures or related fields. Applicant has experience or demonstrates interest in working with students from BIPOC or LGBTQIA populations including teaching and advising. Applicants research scholarship or professional projects demonstrate a commitment to social justice equity and/or diversity issues. Professional registration (RA NCARB PE CACB with evidence of innovation in practice Experience in teaching architecture or an allied field. Advanced academic qualifications: PhD in architecture or an allied discipline ABD or a path to a PhD degree in architecture or related field. Experience in smallorlarge scale testing or advanced analysis of structures. Expertise in innovative building materials and/or construction systems such as mass timber 3D volumetric construction hybrid concrete construction or similar. Advanced expertise in sustainable design practices including netzero designs lifecycle assessments or reuse and recycling approaches. Expertise in innovative construction technology such as building information modeling BIM computational design building performance analysis augmented realityassisted building artificial intelligence or similar. Applicant has leadership or administrative experience with the ability to guide curriculum development or revision. Applicant has the academic or professional experience needed to be effective at both the undergraduate and graduate level with specific knowledge related to NAAB requirements and integrated design.
