About the Role:
Mulitple positions available. The roles would suit students studying Allied Health related courses.
Support Worker at Guide Dogs Victoria plays a crucial role in assisting therapists in delivering structured programs and providing comprehensive support to clients. This role involves working alongside allied health professionals to facilitate skillbuilding and ensure the wellbeing of clients particularly during their stay in our residential facility.
- Provide support to clients in the absence of therapists addressing their needs and ensuring their comfort and safety.
- Work with a diverse range of clients to support inclusion during service delivery.
- Actively supporting clients in their down time from therapy by engaging in conversation or in a leisure activities.
- Follow all safety and health regulations including industry standard infection control guidelines and practise.
- Support Guide Dog Handlers in caring for their dogs in they require it i.e. toileting.
- Manage work practices within area of responsibility to comply with relevant legislative requirements including compliance to National Disability Insurance Scheme requirements.
Overnight Support:
- Assist clients during their overnight stay in our residential facility ensuring a safe and supportive environment throughout their stay.
- Providing guest with a welcoming arrival induction to the accommodation initial orientation supporting their engagement with other residents.
- Assisting Practitioners with afterhours and emergency situations by providing logical and calculated decisions to ensure participant and staff safety.
- Supporting mealtime with plating warming and serving meals to clients whilst they staying in the residential facility.
- Support client needs that may arise throughout the night.
Skills And Experiences
About You:
- Demonstrated track record in proving support work or allied health assistance.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Professional approach and presentation.
- Demonstrates confidentiality and diversity awareness.
- Is flexible: adapts to changing circumstances and prioritises work and addresses what is important.
- Manages time and uses tools effectively to assist with planning and organising.
- Demonstrates appropriate interpersonal skills active listening empathy social awareness and emotional intelligence in communications problem solving and conflict resolution.
- Demonstrates commitment to live the Values and Behaviours of Guide Dogs Victoria.
- Flexibility to work overnight shifts as required.
- A satisfactory background check including a NDIS Worker Screening and Working With Childrens Check.
- Current first aid certificate.
