Position at Thrive Pet Healthcare
** This position will ideally be based in or willing to relocate to WA OR or Northern CA to support the West Region. This role will have oversight of and travel to multiple states within aligned region up to 50. **
Job Summary:
The Regional Doctor Mentor reports to the VP of Medical Operations and directly supports Thrive veterinarians in their assigned regions. The Regional Doctor Mentor also works closely with the Director of Mentorship Programs and the Medical Excellence and Education team.
The Regional Doctor Mentor is an integral member of the regional leadership team who partners with the VP of Medical Operations the Regional Director of Operations (RDO) the medical director and practice manager to ensure continued skill set growth high quality medical mentorship as well as development in nonmedical areas such as communication teamwork personal wellbeing leadership financial stewardship and more. This Mentor will support veterinarians in all stages of their careers in collaboration with the hospital and regional leaders of those hospitals; the focus of mentorship may vary based on doctors experience level and individualized needs. Through mentorship this position will nurture veterinarian talent and support continued development and coaching to ensure they are equipped to handle difficult cases professionally and collaboratively interact with both clients and hospital team and delegate duties to support team members as needed. The Regional Doctor Mentor will be a key player in driving engagement skill development and retention of assigned mentees in their region. The role will require travel and inhospital presence for mentorship and collaboration.
Responsibilities:
Leading with Your Head
Understanding business solving problems and making decisions through inclusive contributions of others
Serve as a member of the Doctor Mentorship Program as an instructor and influencer by facilitating the mentor chat and participating in continuing education presentations.
Help to identify where areas of deficiency exist in the region then plan and execute the most impactful training method.
Accountable to promote the maximum productivity of the associates supported through direct coaching on flow management technician support medical competence and client interactions resulting in increased mentee engagement development retention transaction volume and increased ACT.
Partner with local leaders (Medical Directors Practice Managers Regional Director of Operations) and associates to create individualized development plans which will guide specific subsequent training for each assigned mentee.
Use data including medical and financial KPIs and dashboards to assist in creation of development plans.
Review mentee medical records as needed.
Attend regional leadership meetings as necessary.
Ensure that hospital visits are communicated in advance with the medical director practice manager and RDO. Arrive with a structured plan in place for the visit with predetermined goals for the visit.
Communicate to RDO after the visit: share any action items given to the hospital team or needed by the RDO.
Collaborate with Thrives central Externship Team and local leadership to optimize vet student extern experiences ensure student externs are familiar with the Doctor Mentorship Program and assist in converting externs to hires.

Build strong relationships with mentees and their hospital leaders.
Attend relevant conferences and symposiums on behalf of Thrive Pet Healthcare.
Participate in mentorship meetings with hospital leadership associates and Thrive Medical Excellence team on a routine cadence.
Offer clinical support to staff such as creating treatment plans educating on bedside manner and reviewing diagnostics.
Share strategies for maintaining a healthy worklife balance and mental/emotional wellbeing.
Arrange an average of 2 events/year outside the hospital to connect new graduates provide a forum for them to collaborate and provide continuing education.
Use empathy and candor to support mentee growth in communication and leadership skills.
Leading With Your Hands
The art of bringing people together to leverage their skills talents and knowledge to achieve a common purpose with greater results.
Collaborate with local leadership for New Graduate Hospital Onboarding including a brief review of programs such as SharePoint Thrive University Vetspire ProCare etc. This may include being present during onboarding.
Prepare hospital leadership for new graduate arrivals and help set the tone for their new career.
Manage New Hire Hospital Onboarding for DVM mentees including an analysis of expectations to help determine the level of support needed for them to succeed.
On occasion collaborate with University Relations and Doctor Recruiting Team to support and facilitate the success of the recruiting process.
Increase retention of doctors in the supported region through creating meaningful relationships driving doctor confidence and increasing skillset.
Collaborate with the VP of Medical Operations and Regional Director of Operations to reduce retention risks and drive engagement.
Key Qualifications:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree.
Substantial clinical experience typically at least 510 years of practice.
Experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a veterinary clinic or hospital.
Ability to set and communicate clear expectations and goals for the team.
Ability to recognize support needs collaborate with the affected stakeholders to design a plan and manage of the plan in a timely manner.
Demonstrated experience in mentoring and training less experienced veterinarians and veterinary staff.
Ability to provide constructive feedback and support the professional development of others.
Understanding of and experience in client communication to support the clinics reputation and client satisfaction.
Basic knowledge of veterinary clinic/hospital management including financial aspects such as budgeting billing and revenue generation.
Comfort with common KPIs related to medical quality and financial stewardship/sustainability and ability to have conversations with doctors on these metrics and overall productivity in a compassionate judgmentfree manner.
High emotional intelligence to understand and support the wellbeing of team members and to deal effectively with emotional challenges inherent in veterinary medicine.
Ability to travel up to 50 to support business needs. Expectation to have oversight of and travel to multiple states within aligned region.
