Job Description

Calpine Corporation is Americas largest generator of electricity from natural gas and geothermal resources with operations in competitive power markets. Its fleet of 77 power plants in operation represents over 27000 megawatts of generation capacity. Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following other duties may be assigned)

Manage a team of IS professionals responsible for the development support and enhancements of Calpine Solutions Retail applications. Will plan organize direct and control the functions of this department. Responsible for developing staff and playing a key role in scheduling the effective utilization of staff resources based on requests made. Works closely with business areas to identify business needs and develop system solutions. Actively participates in the analysis and design of technology solutions to meet the business need. Responsible for continually enhancing the procedures and processes followed in completing the activities of the department. Assures that technology standards are defined and the department is complying with those standards.

Job Responsibilities

Acts as liaison between the business user community application vendors 3rd party vendors and the Application Support organization. Applies expert knowledge of Calpine Energy Solutions technology and business processes to solve complex business problems. Documents and implements development processes coding standards and best practices for the development team. Implements and maintains Azure DevOps deployment process including branching strategies code reviews build pipelines and release management.

Job Requirements

Education

  • Requires a bachelors degree in Information Systems Computer Science or equivalent.

Experience

  • Proven work experience mentoring developers and implementing IT development standards.
  • At least 8 years of experience as a Senior Developer or equivalent leadership positions.
  • At least 4 years of experience managing a team of application developers.
  • Proven experience implementing and maintaining Azure DevOps deployment process.
  • Proven work experience designing developing implementing and maintaining robust and scalable integration solutions leveraging Microsoft Azure technologies.

  • Requires excellent verbal and communication skills.
  • Ability to identify issues analyze data develop recommend and implement solutions.
  • Must be selfmotivated goal oriented and able to learn independently.
  • Requires problem solving ability and sufficient knowledge of system analysis skills.
  • Must possess initiative and advanced decisionmaking skills.
  • Must be able to handle multiple requests at the same time and be able to prioritize ones workload.
  • Mature experienced innovative professional.

Leadership Skills

  • Uses advanced technical skills provides oversight of employees performing single function location product or technical area.
  • Using comprehensive knowledge of a seasoned professional serves as working supervisor for team or work group; daytoday technical leadership while performing escalated or complex duties.
  • Serves as advisor to management; influences highly complex decisions regarding the direction or operation of department.
  • Identifies and takes ownership for developing ideas for technical or business improvement initiatives that impact department/division.
  • Decisions typically related to schedule plans and tactics.
  • Results impact to daily operations and progress on small to medium sized projects.
  • Regularly uses independent judgment in the evaluation of intangibles or situations with minimal precedent or standards available for reference.

Technical Skills

  • Experience with every phase of the System Development Life Cycle
  • Makes technical decisions and performs escalated or more highly complex work of a similar nature to that for which they oversee.
  • Works on problems of diverse scope ranging from moderate to complex. May make recommendations on new processes tools and services; leads team in daytoday implementation activities of new products services and techniques.

Fiscal Responsibilities

  • Responsible for analyzing project estimates and providing cost estimates to management team.
  • Responsible for monitoring project and team costs to a budget.

Salary Information Position eligible for annual bonus.
