Position Status: Permanent Full-Time

Available: Immediately

Description of the Position:

As a collaborative business partner and influential member of the leadership team the Director of Finance will be hands-on and involved in all aspects of the financial operations of SickKids Foundation. Leading a team of three direct reports and over twenty indirect reports the Director of Finance will have overall responsibility for the SickKids Foundations accounting and financial reporting; annual business planning and forecasting; treasury; investment reporting including segregation of funds compliance reporting performance monitoring; donor administration and processing.

Reporting directly to and working closely with the Chief Operating Officer the Director of Finance will make regular presentations and provide support to the Boards Audit and Finance Committee and attend Investment Committee meetings.

You will:

  • Oversee accounting operations and the preparation of timely and accurate financial reports and audits to meet all internal external and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Develop implement and continuously improve the Foundations internal controls financial policies processes systems and procedures.
  • Manage the Foundations internal treasury function including cash management and collaborate with Hospital management on the reporting and stewardship of the investment portfolio managed by third parties under the direction and oversight of the Boards Investment Committee.
  • Operate as a strategic partner to senior leaders providing financial insight and operational guidance to support decision making across the organization on various financial matters.
  • Act as the Foundations primary lead on CRA and other taxation authorities matters.
  • Develop financial forecasts to inform and support revenue generating and grant-making decisions; establish and monitor key performance indicators; analyze and report underlying trends on a regular and timely basis.
  • Lead the development and execution of the Foundations annual business plan and budgets both operating and capital ensuring they effectively support and advance the organizations short and long term strategic priorities.
  • Collaborate with the General Counsel to design and implement a robust risk management framework that proactively identifies evaluates and mitigates legal financial operational and reputational risks.
  • Manage the Foundations Procurement Policy and Process to reflect best practices and ensure compliance.
  • Lead develop coach mentor and inspire the Finance and Gift Administration teams.
  • Partner with the Chief Operating Officer and leaders in managing and executing strategic projects. Lead and collaborate with cross functional teams on large organization wide projects.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • University degree preferably in Business Accounting Finance or similar combined with a Professional accounting designation (CPA);
  • Minimum 15 years of progressive financial management experience in a similar complex multi-stakeholder environment with a minimum of 5 years at a senior leadership level.
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of Canadian financial accounting standards for charitable or nonprofit organizations including fund accounting statutory reporting compliance and regulatory requirements. Knowledge of CRA receipting standards and relevant U.S. IRS compliance and regulatory requirements and donor accountability principles.
  • Broad functional expertise in providing oversight of accounting operations; financial reporting; financial planning and analysis; budgeting and forecasting; treasury; investment; finance and risk management functions.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills including superior presentation and interpersonal abilities with strong listening skills and the ability to engage and influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven team leader with strong people development skills and proven success inspiring teams to high levels of performance and engagement.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel Word Outlook and PowerPoint) and proven experience in enhancing or implementing financial or ERP systems.
  • Well-developed project management skills and experience.
  • Skilled relationship manager with outstanding cross functional collaboration skills; known for being approachable supportive and respectful while engaging effectively at all levels of the organization and earning trust through constructive solutions-oriented approach.
  • Problem solver with exceptional critical thinking skills required to devise pragmatic and innovative solutions to financial/business challenges and situations.

Total Compensation Package:

Hiring Salary Range: $132767 $165598; with the ability to progress to a maximum of $190853. To ensure fair and equitable pay at SickKids Foundation placement on the salary range will be based on your years of experience skills and qualifications relevant to the Director Finance.
