Position Number:
PDS is an independent commission whose purpose is to provide highquality efficient representation to indigent citizens who are entitled to counsel at state expense. The ability to telework at times is available.
JOB DUTIES
Manage the Training Division which includes the supervision of an office associate and a seasonal intern.
Identify training topics and presenters; draft agendas and syllabi; develop training content; meet with presenters; draft contracts for training vendors; compare and select venues; apply for continuing legal education credit; create promotional materials; manage and track registrations; host inperson and virtual trainings; calculate maintain and report attendance records for continuing legal education credit and payment; create distribute and analyze posttraining surveys; and save and organize training materials and recordings in a training library.
Serve on Departments rulemaking subcommittee. Draft rules and policies. Communicate with counsel clerks and other stakeholders about Department rules.
Draft maintain and balance the Training Division budget. This includes estimating and
itemizing expenses making and authorizing expenditures within the constraints of the budget.
This also involves making fiscally responsible decisions and saving costs at every reasonable
opportunity.
Identify and apply for grants spend grant funds consistent with the approved proposals
track the expenditure of grant funds manage the implementation of the grant and draft and
submit grant reports.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be an experienced attorney licensed to practice law in any U.S. jurisdiction. Applicant must have baseline knowledge of the major areas of law covered by PDS including criminal child protective and juvenile law. The applicant must have strong oral and written communication skills; be detailoriented; be able to think critically problemsolve and analyze complex issues; have supervisory skills; be proficient in public speaking; and be able to manage their time efficiently while balancing a large workload.
