Purpose of Job
The purpose of this job is to perform a variety of building maintenance duties in Unified Government buildings. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to cleaning and performing small repairs assisting with maintenance of areas designated to others and performing additional tasks as assigned.
Job Related Requirements
Work Schedule:
Monday Friday8:00am to 5:00pm however hours can be changed to 7:00 am to 4:00pm per Supervisor.
May be required to work on religious holidays. Regular and predictable attendance is required. Must work cooperatively with others. When requirements include vehicle operation responsible for the safety readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by ACCs safe driving policy.
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
One year of general custodial or related experience preferred.
Must have the ability to obtain Green Cleaning certification by an appropriate certification agency within 6 months of date of hire.
The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or allinclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Sweeps mops strips waxes and buffs floors; vacuums and shampoos carpets.
Cleans restrooms including cleaning and sanitizing fixtures replacing soap/paper products & emptying trash cans.
Cleans offices and break rooms including vacuuming floors emptying trash cleaning glass and woodwork and dusting furniture.
Cleans areas around entranceways and parking lots; picks up debris.
Replaces defective light bulbs and lamps.
Arranges furniture for special events and moves furniture as needed.
Assists with the AthensClarke County Recycling Program by collecting materials in offices and properly placing them in appropriate containers for pickup.
Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the policies procedures and activities of the Central Services Department as they pertain to the performance of duties relating to the position of Facility Service Worker.
Knowledge of the terminology used within the department.
Knowledge of green cleaning and the ability to perform green cleaning using industry standards and techniques.
Knowledge of various cleaning chemicals supplies and equipment and procedures and methods as required in the performance of duties.
Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and other staff members.
Ability to use independent judgment in routine and nonroutine situations.
Ability to handle the required mathematical calculations.
Ability to plan organize and/or prioritize daily assignments and work activities.
Ability to comprehend and apply the regulations and procedures of the department.
Ability to use specialized cleaning equipment such as buffers carpet shampooers and various hand tools.
