Job Description

Job Posting Summary

The Basic Needs Manager is responsible for providing support to students by ensuring they have access to community resources for behavioral financial and social service needs as well as emergency relief funds. The Basic Needs Manager will assist in the assessment and case management of students who are referred for experiencing nonacademic difficulties that may impede their persistence and academic success. They also facilitate the daytoday operations of the Mav Market including managing deliveries and inventory reviewing intake request forms and emergency food requests ensuring the Mav Market remains in compliance with regulations and managing Federal WorkStudy student workers. The Basic Needs Manager is responsible for developing and maintaining partnerships with local organizations/food banks including Feeding Westchester Food Bank NYC and City Harvest. In addition they will serve as a primary contact for students facing food and/or housing insecurity.

  • Engages with students who may be facing nonacademic challenges that may jeopardize their academic success
  • Facilitates the daytoday operations of the Mav Market including; managing deliveries and inventory reviewing registration forms and emergency food requests
  • Develops and maintain partnerships with local organizations/food banks including Feeding Westchester Food Bank NYC and City Harvest
  • Develops and facilitates presentations and training for community members on services available to students including those provided through the Mav Market
  • Plans coordinates implements and assesses campuswide educational programming initiatives designed to identify and meet the needs of underresources and high need students
  • Works collaboratively with units throughout the University including Residential Life Health and Wellness departments PACT and Student Financial Services
  • Researches external funding opportunities to support emergency support services and basic needs programming
  • Updates and maintains dedicated webpages as well as social media platforms including Instagram
  • Designs and distributes Mav Market monthly newsletter
  • Assists as a member of the Student Emergency Fund Review Committee and the C.A.R.E Team
  • Reviews applications and distributes meal swipes to students through the Mav Meal Swipe Program
  • Interviews hires and trains federal workstudy students for all campus locations
  • Supports Health & Wellness intake and compliance efforts leading into the start of term(s)
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 25 years of professional progressive leadership experience within higher education
  • Experience in areas of student advocacy food and housing insecurity community support resources and economic emergency management
  • Excellent organizational interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and maintain collaborative communication with campus partners
  • Candidate must be flexible as position does require occasional evening and/or weekend hours and may also include travel to other campuses

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Masters Degree in Higher Education Student Affairs Counseling Social Work or other related field
  • Experience working with local community resources and developing partnerships that enhance student success
  • Experience with Pantrysoft and Maxient case management software
