Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university.
  • Requirements as set by the State of New Hampshire Certification Authorities and Board of School Committee regulations.
  • State of NH Teacher Certification in Elementary Education 1810 or 1811)or other approved certification status may be considered.
  • The candidate must possess written and spoken fluency in the target language at the intermediatehigh level as determined by the AAPPL or Avant STAMP world language assessments which are aligned to the National Council of State Supervisors of Foreign Language (NCSSFL) & American Council of the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) language proficiency benchmarks.
  • The candidate must be aware of how ones own cultural social and linguistic background influences perception and practices.
  • The candidate is able to support the development of sociocultural competence in the classroom.
  • The candidate possesses a holistic understanding of authentic assessment of language and content development for dual language learners.
  • The candidate understands the complex relationship between language and power dynamics and works to ensure language equity with duallanguage learners.
  • The candidate understands the scope of dual language models and how the balance of language and time allocations can impact instruction assessment and student outcomes.

Job Summary:

The position involves creating a duallanguage immersion (Spanish) classroom environment dedicated to fostering the learning and personal growth of every student. Teachers are committed to providing equitable instruction in planned courses that address both content and language learning goals following the Dual Language Immersion Model. This includes standardsbased instruction in Spanish with half of the students being native Spanish speakers and the other half native English speakers.

To achieve this the role encompasses establishing effective rapport and motivating students to develop skills attitudes and knowledge for a solid foundation in becoming responsible citizens based on each pupils abilities. Positive relationships with parents and other staff members are integral to the position.

Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs interests and abilities of students.
  • Create a culturally inclusive classroom environment that reflects and sustains the various cultural and linguistic identities of students.
  • Instruct students using strategies conducive to duallanguage immersion.
  • Plan prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active and engaging learning that are aligned with the goals of the Dual Language Program.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment using relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction in English and Spanish.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students in English and Spanish and regularly use data to observe and evaluate student performance and development in both languages to adjust teaching strategies.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with these goals establish clear objectives for all lessons units and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives and assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis to provide progress reports as required.

Specified Length/Hours of Position:

  • This is an affiliated (MEA) position under the Teacher Association negotiated contract following the school calendar with additional workshop days.
