Job Summary
The mission of the Utah Museum of Fine Arts UMFA at the University of Utah is to inspire critical dialogue and illuminate the role of art in our lives. Furthermore we aim to embrace arts power to create meaningful connections between individuals and communities. Located on the University of Utah campus in Salt Lake City the UMFA serves public and university audiences and is the only institution in the Intermountain West region that collects exhibits interprets and cares for an extensive collection of artworks representing a diverse range of global cultures from ancient to contemporary. College and university art museums are uniquely positioned to add value and vibrancy to a holistic campus experience and the UMFA is no exception. The UMFA plays an active role in encouraging people to think differently and helping visitors from across our community to explore and develop thoughtful and empathetic social awareness. This position provides a wonderful opportunity for those interested in gaining experience in both museum and nonprofit work. The job involves working alongside the UMFAs CoDirectors of Learning and Engagement and our dedicated volunteers while assisting in organizing and facilitating our touring calendar. Moreover this position provides opportunities to meaningfully and creatively contribute to a wide variety of programs managed by the Learning and Engagement team. Responsibilities
Duties include: Schedule organize and calendar all tour requests for the UMFA . Maintain and manage and Volgistics software. Serve as a liaison between tour groups and docents in order to arrange tours confirm details communicate requests and answer questions. Participate in greeting docents providing tour supplies and helping to ensure that docents are prepared to give tours. Facilitate tours and artmaking workshops as needed. Assist with our Third Saturday family art making program once per month (approx. 4 hours each time). Assist with special events classes training sessions and curriculum for volunteers and docents. Update program databases and support data and statistics for grants and reporting. Prepare and maintain tour program supplies. Participate in allstaff meetings departmental projects and museumwide events as needed. Work with Learning & Engagement staff to develop curricula contribute ideas and input to the department through team meetings brainstorming and collaborative projects. Minimum Qualifications
One year experience or experience working with and organizing events social schedules conferences etc. or equivalency; demonstrated human relations and communication skills; and a commitment to provide excellent customer service required. 45 wpm typing may be required in some departments. Accounting/bookkeeping experience preferred. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
