Job overview

The mission of Virginia Commonwealth Universitys Office of Development and Alumni Relations is to maximize philanthropic support by engaging stakeholders with our institution working in partnership with all VCU schools programs and campuses as one development and alumni relations community and implementing the best practices and efficient strategies to achieve a comprehensive development program. As a member of the DAR Communications team the graphic designer engages and stewards DAR audiences including alumni donors parents and colleagues through digital and print communications. This role is eligible for 100 telework.

Position responsibilities

  • Creates timely and compelling graphics in support of the universitys fundraising and engagement efforts.
  • Concepts and designs digital and print communications pieces such as social media elements enewsletters emails websites infographics invitations brochures posters ads solicitations and other marketing/communications materials.
  • Coordinates with internal clients requesting graphic design or layout work; works effectively with colleagues across the division to meet production schedules budgets and specifications throughout a project lifecycle.
  • Ensures university identity standards are met with highquality production.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications

Required qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in graphic design multimedia digital arts communications or related field.
  • Minimum three years professional experience in print and digital design.
  • Excellent skills in design typography graphics and concepts.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the digital industry the latest trends and an understanding of how to deliver exceptional creative content across all platforms.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite including InDesign Photoshop and Illustrator Google Suite content management systems print production and project management
  • Ability to multitask meet deadlines and work efficiently under pressure with careful attention to detail.
  • Experience working both independently and as part of a team juggling multiple assignments and customers in a fastpaced environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect professionalism and civility with a population of faculty staff and students from various backgrounds and experiences or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.

Preferred qualifications

  • Professional experience in academic development alumni or nonprofit communications.
