Job Description

The Opportunity

We are seeking enthusiastic Lawyers looking for an alternative legal career path to practise as a Conflicts Solicitor. This is a varied and challenging role that will allow you to use your legal skill set in a strategic commercial setting and provide you with a unique insight into the firms global clients and sectors.

The Conflicts Team falls under the New Business and Enterprise Risk Department and is responsible for the management of conflicts of interest and information barriers globally.

We play a key role in the development and shaping of firm strategy globally by liaising with Sector Lead Partners Regional/Global Heads of Practice and Business Development to ensure that any new instructions comply with our professional obligations under the applicable Solicitors Conduct Rules and are a commercial fit for the firm.

Full training will be provided for the role so no previous conflicts experience is required.

Some key responsibilities will include:

  • advising on the resolution of complex legal and commercial conflicts problems and liaising with Partners and staff in relation to conflicts issues and queries;

  • ensuring compliance with global sanctions and AntiMoney Laundering obligations;

  • reviewing drafting and advising on conflict provisions in firm engagement letters firm policies and other client agreements including panel arrangements.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • admitted to practice as a Solicitor (in any area of law) in Australia or another jurisdiction in which HSF operates;

  • 2 years post admission experience with excellent research technical and analytical skills;

  • a proactive approach with the ability to adapt to competing demands in a fast paced environment.

  • a desire to work outside of traditional private practice in an alternative legal career.

  • excellent communication skills and ability to demonstrate collegiality within a team;

  • good commercial awareness;

We do not require you to have any previous experience in Conflicts as full training will be provided. The Conflicts Team will invest 6 months in your early training to provide you with a solid foundation for a career in Conflicts. This role will be wellsuited to you if youre someone who thrives in a busy and challenging role with a proven ability to critically analyse information and work through complex technical challenges. You will spend considerable time working with Partners and/or Senior Management so effective communication skills are also key.
