As a member of the Family Programs team the Family Programs Managers primary role is to manage customer service and program support staff and volunteers including the Learning Operations Coordinator Program Assistants and volunteers. The Family Programs Manager reports to the Senior Manager of Family Programs and supports program logistics daily operations and maintenance of the Crown Family PlayLab including staff supporting the PlayLab.

The Family Programs Manager will work a Sunday Thursday schedule with regular weekend and evening work some holidays and up to 10 overnights depending on programming schedules.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Staff Management

  • Supervise staff that support programming for the Family Programs team
  • Manage schedules and training of Program Assistants that support afterhours programs the Crown Family PlayLab and supplemental support for the department.
  • Manage customer service staff that support program registration preevent communications information resources and handle all escalations in customer communication
  • Support the interviewing training and onboarding of volunteers supporting the Family Programs Team
  • Oversee volunteer schedules communications and delegation of volunteer responsibilities

PlayLab Operations

  • Oversee daytoday operations for the Crown Family PlayLab including staffing and opening and closing the space following a set of defined procedures this includes working on holidays as needed.
  • Provide staffing support for lunch breaks and other coverage as needed
  • Support as a liaison between PlayLab and other museum departments for ongoing maintenance of the PlayLab exhibition and program spaces
  • Oversee and the ideation and coordination of updates and changes to the PlayLab
  • Provide a safe and welcoming space for visitors
  • Manage the PlayLab maintenance budget
  • Maintain calendar of reservations for all programming

Program Logistics

  • Work closely with program leads to coordinate event logistics with external departments for after hours events which may include preevent walkthroughs preparing Museum Event Orders and space reservations
  • Work closely with program leads to ensure programs are adequately staffed
  • Serve as Manager on duty for after hours events handling all guest concerns and serving as point person to troubleshoot any issues; this will include regular weekend and evening work up to 10 overnights a year and some holidays.
  • Candidate must be willing to work overnight programs
  • Support best practices for delivery of programming and interpretation strategies
  • Work closely with program leads who develop new program opportunities focused on accessibility to assist with implementation and
  • Support Family Programs as assigned

Misc.

  • Ensure the safety of all guests and follow museum safety and emergency protocol
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in education the sciences communications training and development nonprofit management or similar field of study is required.
  • 6 8 years of experience in one or a combination of the following: developing educational programming or exhibits; managing and coaching employees and volunteers in an educational setting; classroom or informal teaching; nonprofit program management; executing training programs or professional development workshops.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and be facile at successfully managing training coaching and interacting with individuals and large groups of people.
  • Experience in editing expanding evaluating and leading the development of staffcreated programming.
  • Experience and comfort in formally presenting information to individuals of all ages; large diverse groups; and executive team members and leadership.
  • Experience in managing multiple programs and associated staff in a fastpaced environment.
  • Must enjoy working with others and possess the ability to collaboratively brainstorm create research write and develop interactive programs activities or facilitations that support the mission of the Field Museum. A passion or ability to learn about natural history and the sciences is required.
  • Must be able to successfully work both as part of a team and by pursuing selfdirected projects and activities that contribute to the larger whole.
  • Should be creative while able to analyze feedback and understand and negotiate the needs of multiple audiences.

Pay: $72100/annually
