Principal Corporate Risk Specialist (Fixed term / secondment for a period of 12 months)

From operating water and wastewater treatment works managing the complex networks of pipes and sewers to undertaking strategy planning and investment decisions and working with our customers and communities our regulators and supply chain partners to protect and enhance our services.

Within the Corporate Risk Team we focus on the biggest risks (both threats and opportunities) to Scottish Water. Those risks which could significantly impact the services we provide to our customers our strategic direction our finances and our people.

Working within the Corporate Risk Team no two days will be the same. We work in a complex dynamic and ever developing environment striving to understand the risks we encounter today and how effectively we are managing them.

We also actively considering the threats and opportunities we could face in the future; supporting the identification and understanding of forecasts trends and patterns internally and externally and challenging the business on the best approach to navigating these.

What youll do

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to join the Corporate Risk Team for a fixed period of a year. In this time you will gain valuable insight into the world of risk management and the essential activities of Scottish Water.

You will have three key areas of responsibility: :

  • Strategic Review Risk Assessment: You will be the key contact for SRC27 Risk within the Corporate Risk Team. You will work closely with Strategy & Regulation to understand the risks to the SRC27 Business Plans production and delivery. Key to this activity will be working across teams and disciplines to identify assess and analyse both the threats and opportunities we face in the 202733 period. You will ideally have practical experience of undertaking Monte Carlo risk analysis @Risk) and/or the ability to interrogate interpret and translate the results of such analysis into valuable direction for the business in the acceptance and delivery of the SRC27 plan. You will be able to guide the understanding and activities of peers external consultants and our regulators to ensure successful awareness and mitigation of risks. You will support the decision making around the acceptance of the SRC27 regulatory contract and narration of our risk within our external Delivery Plan.

  • Business Partnering (Supporting): You will be the key contact for nominated business areas enabling and supporting risk management activities in those areas. You will build an effective relationships and networks base on trust and transparency. You will ensure understanding of key business processes and activities and develop awareness of individual aggregated and compounding risk across the business. Across these activities you will be responsible for providing specialist knowledge expertise and challenge to our people our decisionmakers and our Senior will be a champion for a positive and an effective risk culture. You will promote understanding and awareness of risk and risk management across the organisation; in doing so you will enable our people to be competent at effectively identifying assessing and managing risks.

  • Corporate Governance (Reporting): You will ensure accurate reporting of risks within your areas to key governance groups which will include Strategic Planning Group (SPG) Executive Leadership Team (ELT) Audit & Risk Committee (A&RC) and Board. You will support the development of Corporate Risk Reporting and take a lead on activities on external risk reporting within our Annual Report & Accounts. You will be the corporate conscious considering how effectively we are managing risk challenging where we can improve our activities or approaches and providing appropriate assurance to governance groups regulators and the general public.

This role will report to the Head of Corporate Risk and will work alongside existing Corporate Risk Specialists.

What youll bring

You will ideally be educated to degree level and hold a suitable qualification in a risk related discipline; you will have a working knowledge of quantitative and qualitative risk assessment. More importantly however you will be able to demonstrate a risk management mindset; you will be able to evidence practical application of risk management and provide extensive knowledge and experience in a riskbased role.

You will be an experienced and enthusiastic people leader with a track record of supporting coaching and developing people from different backgrounds and alternative outlooks with the commitment to maintain a fun and supportive working environment.

A skilled communicator youll have a knack for knowingyouraudience. Whether youre crafting written documentation presenting to a group or facilitating a risk workshop; you know how to effectively get your message across or achieve a desired outcome.

You will be a fast learner and able to switch between technical subjects with relative ease. Where required you can deepdive into detail but also able to zoom out and see the bigger picture. You will be able to translate complexity into accessible language and ensure clear understanding of what is important.

The notsosmall print

This role will be a Grade 8. If youre new to Scottish Water youll join us on a starting salary of 48900.00. Performancedriven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of 68510.00
