The Climate Jobs Institute at Cornell Universitys ILR School is guiding New Yorks and the nations transition to a strong equitable and resilient clean energy economy that tackles the climate crisis creates highquality union jobs confronts race and gender inequality and builds a diverse and inclusive workforce centering frontline communities.
Through cuttingedge policy research deep relationships with ontheground partners and innovative training and education programs the Institute provides the information that policymakers the labor and environmental movements industry leaders and others need to navigate this historic transition to a zerocarbon economy.
The Climate Jobs Institute serves as the academic and educational partner to the Climate Jobs National Resource Center providing research policy and educational support to coalitions of unions in numerous U.S. states.
The Climate Jobs Institute studies the labor and employment impacts of climate change and the transition to clean energy and develops workerandequity centered climate policy for U.S. states and cities. CJIs research includes developing energy emissions and labor profiles for U.S. states analyzing the efficacy of state climate policy and programs examining and calculating the job creation impacts of various climate policies and identifying best practices for accelerating climate action highquality union job creation and equity. Much of CJIs research is used to help labor unions develop a positive and proactive vision for addressing climate change and inequality. CJI also does academic research on working conditions in clean energy sectors developing highquality job multipliers for clean energy investments and best practices for just transition.
What we are seeking:
The position will support CJIs training and education programs and activities. CJIs training and educational programs include designing and delivering educational programs on climate change why labors leadership on climate issues is important identifying the challenges and opportunities that labor unions face in this transition and an examination of the jobs opportunities in specific clean energy sectors. CJIs educational programs include union leadershiplevel convenings rank and file trainings (online and inperson) multiday retreats workshops at union conventions and other conferences and an annual Climate Jobs Summit. The Extension Support Specialist will contribute to the development design and delivery of training program curriculum; provide both offsite and onsite technical assistance; and assist with training and outreach opportunities related to project content areas.
The Extension Support Specialist will also provide technical and research assistance for CJIs educational programs including preparing briefings on labor climate and equity issues presentations and crafting materials for CJI trainings and educational convenings. The successful candidate will support CJIs training and education team with collecting data interpretation of data and identifying and reviewing relevant emerging information including policy issues to stay informed of best practices in field. The individual will present at participate in and attend educational convenings trainings conferences workshops and public events related to the Institutes education programs. The Extension Support Specialist will work with undergraduate student fellows at the CJI. The individual will also edit grant and funding proposals and write media articles for the CJI and ILR communications related to training events and convenings.
The successful candidate will have experience with labor unions environmental and climate justice organizations and/or the clean energy industry; knowledge of the intersection of labor jobs climate and equity issues; and a deep commitment to building a strong equitable and resilient clean energy economy and climate jobs movement.
This is a term fulltime bargaining unit position that falls under the NYC ILR Extension exempt CWA contract. Initial appointment through June 30 2027 position may be reappointed with approval based on available funding and work.
The position is based in the Cornell University New York City ILR Extension office located at 570 Lexington Ave New York NY 10022.

Experience or internship working with unions labor boards or academic labor programs.
Experience or internship working with environmental climate justice or clean energy organizations.
Experience with internet and library searches.
Familiarity with many of the following areas including labor unions especially building trade and energy sector unions worker organizing and collective bargaining contracts climate organizations climate justice climate protection and clean energy policy renewable energy and other lowcarbon economic sectors lowwage precarious work and inequality and union and worker training programs.
Experience and skill using and learning different software packages and webbased tools (e.g. Microsoft Office Google Drive Zoom or videoconferencing software Lexis Nexis library databases and Qualtrics).
Experience with online educational engagement tools like Zoom Polls Everywhere.
You will be a top candidate with our preferred qualifications:
Masters degree in social science or applied research educational leadership human resources program evaluation statistics or related discipline.
Prior experience working in climate change or policy communication.
Three to four years of experience in training and education and/or program evaluation environment.
Knowledge of digital learning tools web media and use of web for technical assistance research and information dissemination.
Ability to review summarize and interpret research results for practical application to workplace implementation.
Experience working in a team environment providing collaborative input and contributing support to creative database projects.
Extensive knowledge of the offshore wind industry including the manufacturing supply chain emerging clean energy technologies New York state public policy on climate and offshore wind and labor standards for renewable and clean energy projects.
Familiarity with reviewing and examining collective bargaining agreements.
Capability to perform public policy research and understand the decisionmaking and lawmaking process of multiple states federal and international contexts.
Experience in project or program management preferred.
Knowledge of Canva and InDesign is preferred.
Salary per CWA exempt bargaining unit contract: $64915 with education experience and relevant skills the hiring salary may be up to $69000.
