ABOUT THE UPPER GRAND DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD (UGDSB)

The UGDSB employs a team of approximately 4000 dedicated staff who serve more than 35000 students attending a variety of programs across 65 elementary and 11 secondary schools as well as continuing education and adult learning centres in the counties of Dufferin Wellington and the City of Guelph. The UGDSB covers the ancestral and treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit the Six Nations of the Grand River and Saugeen Ojibway Nation.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The UGDSB is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as a Casual Educational Assistant (EA) . This opening is specifically for a position on our EA Supply List. This is a 10month position (September to June) to start as soon as possible.

In this role you will be responsible for providing temporary and/or shortterm coverage for EA employee absences on an asneeded basis in both elementary and secondary English and French Immersion Programs.

Location:

All geographical areas of the Boardwith flexibility to choose specific areas within the Boards geographical regions including North Wellington Centre Wellington East Wellington Guelph Orangeville Dufferin County and Shelburne.

Hours of work/FTE :

As this is a casual position there is no guaranteed number of hours per week. However a casual employee with full availability could work fulltime 1.0 FTE; 32.5 hours per week) depending on need.

As a member of the EA Supply List you will have the opportunity to apply for vacant permanent or temporary positions as they arise with possible consideration over external applicants.

Rate of Pay / Salary Range:

$29.92 per hour plus applicable vacation pay in accordance with Employment Standards Act; wage rate effective September 1 2024.

Reporting to the school Principal the successful candidate must possess willingness along with the physical ability to work with all our students who have diverse needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with students with diverse needs providing support for the behaviour safety medical and physical needs of a student. Duties may include lifting toileting positioning and transferring children and equipment as well as application of BMS techniques.
  • Work with students both individually and/or in a group setting.
  • Flexibility patience empathy and the ability to work closely with students with complex needs classroom teacher parents and Administration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Educational Assistant Diploma and/or a combination of formal education (fields related to the development of children and/or special education) and work experience deemed equivalent by the Board.
  • PostSecondary Degree in a related field of study.
  • A valid Behaviour Management Systems certification will be required for this position. Training to be provided if candidate does not have current BMS certificate.
  • Proven ability and recent experience in working with students with special needs and behavioural disabilities is strongly preferred and schoolbased experience is a definite asset.
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder Training.
  • Lifting/Positioning Training.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification is an asset.
  • Candidates must be capable of performing the essential physical duties of the position such as lifting positioning and transferring children and equipment and utilizing BMS techniques where required.
  • Access to a reliable method of transportation and ability to attend specific schools.
