Columbia University School of Professional Studies seeks candidates for the role of adjunct Lecturer for the Fall 2025 semester to teach the graduatelevel course Advanced Actuarial Methods in the schools highly ranked Master of Science degree program in Actuarial Science. Scholarpractitioners with relevant academic and industry experience are invited to apply.
Advanced Actuarial Methods seeks to develop the students knowledge of the theoretical basis of certain actuarial models and the application of those models to insurance and other financial risks. A thorough knowledge of calculus probability and interest theory is assumed. Knowledge of risk management at the level of Exam
P is also assumed.
The combination of these two classes covers the material for the FAML and ALTAM examinations of the Society of Actuaries. This is a core class of the Actuarial Science program.
Serving as an adjunct Lecturer provides an outstanding opportunity to educate and mentor students aspiring to a career in Actuarial Science related fields as well as to form a rewarding professional relationship with Columbia Universitys worldclass faculty. Candidates should have a demonstrated understanding of academic and
applied trends that are driving best practice in the field.
