Job Description

Finance Manager

The Leonardo Museum of Creativity and Innovation first opened in 2011 in downtown Salt Lake City. Over the last decade we have forged a new museum experience that combines science technology and art with handson learning in order to inspire creativity and innovation in our visitors and the larger community.

About the role:

Hours: 40 hours per week

Reports to: Director of Programs and Administration

The Finance Manager plays a critical role at The Leonardo supervising the daytoday general accounting functions and accounting operations of the museum which includes the receiving and disbursing of cash recording of revenue review and follow up on accounts receivable and accounts payable and compilation of data for financial reporting and operational and management accounting reports.

This position has a primary responsibility to protect assets meet reporting requirements provide timely meaningful reporting of operations and effectively plan for and account for the financial needs of the museum. The position also interfaces with many internal and external stakeholders so a positive and professional attitude is required.

What youll be doing:

Core Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the reporting of the general ledger and finances of The Leonardo.
  • Manages Accounts Payable and Receivables and ensures all bookkeeping is accurate in Quickbooks Online
  • Supports all staff with the PO process and other questions for finance
  • Manages cashflow and recommends payments and vendor contracts to the Administrative Director
  • Ensures compliance with all internal controls
  • Interfaces with The Leonardos HR company on payroll 401k and other items
  • Interfaces with department managers on budgets B2As and annual budget planning
  • Interfaces with The Leonardos contracted CPA to review monthend reports Board reports etc
  • Ensures vendor communications and payments are timely and accurate
  • Generates reports of museum activities of current and proposed financial plans. Administers the Finance department in preparing financial reports for management including balance sheets and income statements on a combined and departmental basis both on a monthly and year to date basis. Monitors the budget vs. actual results and investigates and reports on material variances to management.
  • Oversees the collection of contributions owed the museum the payment of vendors for services and maintains control of museum cash.
  • Audit support: Will have significant responsibility in the annual audit. Expected to work with the outside audit manager by providing schedules and reconciliations of accounts and transactions as requested.
  • Responsible for all accounts receivable and accounts payable.
  • Oversees 1099 payments and oversight as well as fulfillment annually.
  • Supports the Hospitality Department with payment coordination as necessary.
  • Ability to track and measure other KPIs
  • Other duties as needed.

Required skills:

  • MUST be proficient in QuickBooks Enterprise additional training on QuickBooks if needed.
  • MUST have nonprofit accounting experience and knowledge of nonprofit best practices.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel Outlook & PowerPoint) in particular Excel.
  • Thorough knowledge of general financial accounting and recordkeeping practices and procedures.
  • Proficiency in drafting financial statements for management finance committee and board of directors.
  • Detail oriented and possesses excellent business writing & typing skills.
  • Must be an excellent comunicator
  • Be able to prioritize manage multiple projects and follow through on issues in a timely manner.
  • Possess a high degree of initiative integrity and accuracy with the ability to keep sensitive information confidential.
  • Professionalism: Cordial demeanor friendly and attentive of people and surroundings.

Required skills:

  • Bachelor degree required Masters degree preferred.
  • Three plus years of accounting experience required.
  • Must be positive selfmotivated and work well under pressure in a team environment.
