The mission of Western State Hospital (WSH) is to promote recovery and wellbeing in partnership with the people we serve. In support and service of approximately the 900 patients their families and the communities of Washington State Organizational Development is responsible for the training and development education of approximately 2600 WSH employees. The Safety Trainer is a critical position supporting the hospitals priority area to effectively educate and model best practices for all hospital staff and reports to an Administrator in Organizational Development.
The Safety Trainer provides training and also instructional design/development upon direction. The incumbent is an advanced certified instructor and facilitator specializing in the education of the psychiatric hospitals safety and intervention identified trainings policies and practices. The Safety Trainer is responsible to educate employees enrolled in General New Employee Orientation Clinical New Employee Orientation Annual InService or other scheduled trainings as well as conduct ongoing and refresher training for all hospital employees as needed and directed.
Position responsibilities require superior communication and collaboration skills professionalism interpersonal effectiveness emotional intelligence at all times to engage and motive adult learning and ability to effectively deliver education across disciplines.
Position responsibilities require applicable experience and/or education understanding of behavior and patient engagement strategies and ability to effectively employ and train verbal deescalation strategies and physical safety techniques.
The Safety Trainer maintains current expert knowledge of WSH safety and intervention policy and procedures Nursing Standards and Federal and State regulations and is expected to maintain compliance with all credentialing requirements.

1. A Bachelors degree preferably involving major study in sociology or other social science.
AND
2. Two years of professional counseling or casework experience. One year of graduate training in behavioral social sciences may be substituted year for year for casework experience.
OR
One year as an Institution Counselor II.
