Depop is looking for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join us permanently. Within this role youll be working primarily in Scala as part of a cross functional product team managing critical backend services and delivering key user functionality.
Responsibilities:
As a Senior Backend Engineer within this team you can expect to:
Work closely with Engineering Managers Data Scientists Product Managers and other Front and Backend Engineers to understand problems and to design solutions.
Produce highquality code that is wellstructured and simple to understand that will be used by 1M active daily users
Endtoend application support including production incident management
Embrace agile methodologies
Engage in a culture of continuous improvement by attending events such as blameless postmortems architecture reviews etc.
Collaborate on a daily basis with fellow engineers in the cross functional environment to solve problems and write code
Youll own your code and workflows through its entire lifecycle
Mentor less senior engineering colleagues
Qualifications
Be capable to write high quality code in Scala or be interested in learning a functional language
Experience working with RDBMS ideally Postgres
Message queues: (e.g. RabbitMQ / Apache Kafka)
Experience building scalable web applications serving 10000s of requests per second
DevOps culture (CI/CD pipeline)
Ability to proactively find and solve complex problems independently but also know when to seek guidance or help from your peers.
Must haves:
Willing to work in Scala codebases
Proficient in testing solutions at different levels unit integration etc
Experience with relational or nonrelational databases preferably PostgreSQL DynamoDB AWS Athena
Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
Nice to haves:
Experience with eCommerce
Experience with eventdriven architectures preferably using RabbitMQ or Kafka
Experience in using production AWS infrastructure ideally with Terraform
