Job Description

Anticipated Opening: K8 STEM Coordinator SY

Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics)

This position reports to the Assistant Superintendent.

Job Summary:

The K8 STEM Coordinator Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) provides districtwide leadership for curriculum in the designated subject areas. A main focus of the position is in the area of mathematics: curriculum development articulation and implementation curriculum coherence data collection and analysis program assessment and professional development. The mathematics work will be completed under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent and in collaboration with school leaders and faculty.

Additionally the K8 STEM Coordinator will work with the Assistant Superintendent and school leaders to identify and accomplish academic strategic priorities: ensuring curriculum is congruent with the districts mission and core values; fostering researchedbased best practices in elementary and middlelevel education leading multiyear curriculum review cycles; ensuring consistency of overarching pedagogy approach methodology and scope/sequence; creating professional development opportunities and workshops; serving as a curriculum/instructional coach key resource and consultant to faculty in teaching methods and curriculum delivery.

Requirements:

  1. Masters degree (or higher) in education or related field.
  2. DESE Leadership Certification in at least one of the following: Supervisor/Director Principal/Assistant Principal or Special Education Administrator
  3. DESE Certification in at least one of the following: Elementary 16 Middle School Mathematics/Science 58 Mathematics 16 or Mathematics 58
  4. Experience and expertise in at least two of the three mathematics gradelevel components within the K8 grade span: Middlelevel (Grades 78 Elementary (Grades 46 and Primary (Grades K3.

Responsibilities:

  • Approve and revise with appropriate faculty the curriculum for science mathematics engineering technology computer science and digital literacy.
  • Coordinate departmental curriculum objectives and expected student outcomes.
  • Keep abreast of new trends methodology program concepts etc. on a continuing basis.
  • Conduct appropriate inservice programs professional development and department meetings.
  • Disseminate information on new developments in science technology engineering and mathematics.
  • Conduct programming reviews according to the curriculum review cycle.
  • Advise and assist the school leaders on intervention mathematics specialist caseloads mathematics specialist intervention methods and intervention scheduling.
  • Supervise related extracurricular activities.
  • Assist the Assistant Superintendent in the preparation of reports and statistics required by the district or the schools.
  • Prepare annual budget reports and grants related to science technology engineering and mathematics.
  • Analyze assessment data (local and state assessments) and share with school leaders and faculty.
  • Serve as a curriculum/instructional coach key resource and consultant to faculty in teaching methods and curriculum delivery.
  • Collaborate with other leaders in planning and running new faculty orientation and new faculty development.
  • Serve as liaison to appropriate community and parent groups including professional organizations.
  • Communicate with various constituencies and stakeholders to articulate and promote strength and direction of the districts academic program.
  • Assume other related duties that the Assistant Superintendent may deem necessary.

Additional Information:

  • TheK8 STEM Coordinatorwillcoordinate with stipended lead teachers around curriculum/instructional priorities and professional development.
  • Candidates with DESE Certification in Technology/Engineering 512 General Science 58 General Science 16 Digital Literacy/Computer Science PreK6 or Digital Literacy/Computer Science 512 are encouraged to apply if they also have a mathematicsoriented DESE Certification (Mathematics 16 Middle School Mathematics/Science 58 Mathematics 58 or Mathematics 812.
  • Candidates with experience with curriculum reviews as a participant or as a leader are encouraged to apply. During the school year the K8 STEM Coordinator along with guidance and support from the Assistant Superintendent will initiate curriculum reviews for mathematics in Grades K8 and for science in Grades 68.
