Position Summary
The Learning Design Consultant is an integral member of the Workforce Development unit and reports to the Associate Dean. The primary role of the Learning Design Consultant is to actively support identified stakeholders primarily faculty Deans and Program Chairs in achieving their learning design and curriculum development objectives. In this way the Workforce Development unit supports the achievement of access quality & sustainability goals articulated in the Bow Valley College Institutional Plan.
The Learning Design Consultant will contribute to the strategic direction of the Workforce Development unit in two ways. First in consultation with the Associate Dean the Learning Design Consultant will be responsible for a portfoliobased workload associated with the servicebased role of the Workforce Development unit. The Learning Design Consultant will work collaboratively with other team members to achieve the goals of the unit. Second the Learning Design Consultant will be responsible for providing support to the Bow Valley College academic community in developing knowledge of and enhancing application of adult learning principles and the selection and application of available instructional tools and technologies in the Colleges programs and services.
This position requires the incumbent to be flexible in relation to the scope and scheduling of various duties and services requested by the departments and to keep current with trends and research in the field. Additional duties may include participation in various college activities such as research projects.
Position responsibilities and accountabilities include but are not limited to:
- Conduct needs assessments with employers to identify workforce skill gaps.
- Develop competencybased learning outcomes aligned with job roles and industry standards.
- Design course structures and modular content tailored for adult careerfocused learners.
- Create realworld assessments such as scenarios projects or skill demonstrations.
- Develop or curate multimedia content using plain language and accessible formats.
- Integrate employer input through codesign validation or review of curriculum.
- Build and test courses in the LMS ensuring intuitive navigation and strong UX.
- Pilot courses and gather feedback from learners and employers to refine materials.
- Track learner outcomes and job placements to measure training effectiveness.
- Collaborate with SMEs and project teams to ensure timely quality course delivery.
Required qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Education Instructional Design or related field (Masters preferred)
- 35 years experience in instructional design or workforcefocused curriculum development
- Proven ability to develop competencybased employeraligned training
- Proficient with LMS platforms adult learning principles and digital content tools (e.g. Articulate H5P etc.
- Experience using or integrating AI tools for learning design content generation or skills assessment
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
