MIDDLETOWN TRANSITION CENTER TUTOR

LOCATION: MIDDLETOWN TRANSITION CENTER

REPORTS TO: MTC Coordinator/Supervisor of Pupil Services and Special Education


Broad Function:
In conjunction with the Middletown Transition Center Coordinator the tutor
provides individualized instructional support to students with special education
needs ages 1822.


Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Position is 181 school days typically 25 hours/week
  • Provide individual instruction to students taking college courses at Middlesex Community College. Location may be Middlesex Community College Library or virtual.
  • Assist with academic success strategies. Goals are individualized and may include a certificate program at Community College or general college class experience.
  • Support students in becoming more independent learners persisting in academic studies and achieving IEP goals.
  • Clarify and review concepts taught in class explain processes and help students solve specific problems.
  • Teach organizational strategies and needed study skills.
  • Consistent communication with all parties involved.
  • Proficient use of technology required. Use of email Google docs and Zoom essential.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Ability to understand and teach high school and college level content


Salary & Compensation:

  • $31/hour

  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift or carry objects less than thirty 30 pounds
  • Ability to perform manipulative skills such as writing and typing
  • Ability to see and read objects closely as wiring labels on equipment reading/proofreading a report using a computer monitor filing and/or retrieving information from a filing system and verifying the accuracy of financial information
  • Ability to hear normal sounds with background noise as in using a telephone or radio distinguish verbal communication and communicate through speech including using a radio
  • Ability to learn and acquire an understanding of new information methodologies and techniques and how they apply to school goals and operations
  • Memory adequate to perform tasks/assignments given over long periods of time
  • Ability to concentrate on a task for more than 60 minutes

authorization or permit issued by the State Board of Education the district shall
notify the Bureau of Certification and Professional Development.
