Position: Portuguese Teacher
Reports to: Principal of Schools

SUMMARY:
The Portuguese teacher will provide instruction in Portuguese language to second language learners as well as heritage speakers of the language collaborate with teachers inside and outside the department collaborate with families to support student progress and maintain student data and as required by the department school or district.
Start Date: 1st day of schoolschool year
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
a) Develop curriculum content and standardsbased curriculum
b) Provide instruction to second language and heritage learners on developed Portuguese curriculum.
c) Monitor student progress using state and districtdeveloped assessments and set student learning goals based on assessments.
d) Reflect on teaching and learning using quantitative and qualitative data and make curricular and instructional adjustments based on data.
e) Collaborate with World Language Department colleagues to analyze student and department data and make ongoing programmatic improvements..
f) Collaborate and confer with families of students to support language learning and academic achievement
g) Maintain current professional knowledge regarding foreign language instruction through reading professional publications attending professional conferences and/or participating in other professional learning activities as approved by building administrators and/or the World Languages curriculum coordinator.
h) Maintain confidentiality regarding personal and work/school related information for all students and staff of the district.
Qualifications:
1. Advanced level of proficiency in Portuguese (native or nativelike).
2. Valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Educator Licensure Foreign Language Portuguese.
3. Bachelors degree required.
4. Evidence of successful teaching experience preferred.
5. Strong knowledge base of current research about curriculum instruction and assessment in foreign language instruction and the ability to apply this knowledge in daily practice.
6. Knowledge of Massachusetts Common Core State Standards and state adopted standards Instruction and Assessment and the ability to apply this knowledge in daily practice.
7. Experience living in one or more Portuguese speaking countries preferred.
8. Effective computer skills.
9. Strong organizational skills and strong written and verbal communication skills
10. Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.
11. Experience in providing professional development for teachers preferred.

13. Must have completed training as a medical interpreter.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Hudson School Committees policy on evaluation or in accordance with union contract.

While performing duties of this job the employee may often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee will have also have ample periods of standing and may be required to traverse throughout the building. The employee must frequently use hands and frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e. calculator copy machine and computer printer). Physical abilities may also include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling stooping/crouching reaching/handling talking/hearing conversations and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field. Ability must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20lbs for short periods and walk up and down stairs several times a day. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students staff members and the public in person and on the telephone.
