The University of Southern California (USC) Department of Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking a Manager Research Facilitation & Applications (RFA) Team with an exceptional commitment to service excellence to join our team.
As the Manager Research Facilitation & Applications Team you will be an integral member of the Center for Advanced Research Computing (CARC) while reporting to the Associate Chief Research Information Officer. This is a fulltime exempt position eligible all USC Benefits Perks available to its tenure such as comprehensive medical coverage generous retirement matching and free tuition. This position is a hybrid role requiring regular oncampus presence as needed subject to departmental needs.
This Manager Research Facilitation & Applications Team will direct research project(s) and supervises other computer scientists on a project basis. The Manager RFA Team provides research support on problems of a broad scope and executes research projects in collaboration with others. The Manager RFA Team generates research ideas and solutions to complex computer science problems. Additionally the Manager RFA Team develops research funding and manages project budgets.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate for the position of Manager Research Facilitation & Applications Team must meet the following qualifications:
A doctorate advanced degree in computer science information science or related science and engineering fields.
A minimum of 7 years of related professional experience although combined experience/education may substitute for minimum work experience.
Demonstrated supervisory skills as part of related experience.
Demonstrated ability to conceptualize research directions exert technical leadership communicate technical ideas coordinate individual contributions to a research program and present research plans and results in a manner that will elicit favorable funding actions.
A record of outstanding research contributions and experience in an area of computer science technical proficiency exceptional creativity successful collaboration with others and independent thought. Demonstrated reputation as an emerging leader in field with sustained performance and accomplishment.
In addition the successful candidate must also demonstrate through ideas words and actions a strong commitment to USCs Unifying Values.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Exceptional candidates for the position of Manager Research Facilitation & Applications Team will also bring the following qualifications or more:
Demonstrated knowledge of the research process proposal lifecycle data lifecycle and workflows.
Advanced knowledge of highperformance computing highperformance networking and domainspecific applications to support collaborative research.
Experience with user training developing and teaching education programs.
Proven ability to successfully manage and prioritize multiple projects and plans implement project specifications report project status identify delays and raise concerns.
Exceptional interpersonal skills including demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a variety of stakeholders including researchers IT staff IT leadership and university administrators.
SCOPE OF THE ROLE:
The Manager Research Facilitation & Applications Team will:
Manage the Research Facilitation and Application Team at the Center for Advanced Research Computing at USC.
Build and maintain collaborative relationships with team members peers and department leaders. Support the vision for the Center for Advanced Research Computing (CARC). Work closely with team members and management to implement and support effective solutions for research community.
Support collaborative research efforts at the institutional regional and national levels to identify and promote research and development opportunities in support of the universitys strategic research plan.
Investigate and address researcher inquiries and present complex technical concepts in simple straightforward manners. Engage with and encourages RFA team staff to support and collaborate on initiatives as needed.
Supervise the activities of one or more research projects technical and support staff. Determine methods and procedures on new assignments and provides guidance to research staff members.
Directly or indirectly supervise the RFA Team staff assigned to the projects of the Center for Advanced Research Computing (CARC) sometimes through subordinate managers and supervisors.
Act as a spokesperson in representing a project(s) to funding agencies and in matters of technological achievement in a given area.
Develop funding sources and originates research proposals for the purpose of obtaining funding to support R&D efforts in the Center (CARC).
Develop budget for a research project(s). Monitor expenditures to ensure the project remains within the established budget.
Provide budget forecasts and adjust project expenditures to stay within budgeted limits. Update project plans with budget forecasts and timing of expected new funding. Communicate with management on financial status of project(s) as requested and needed for planning purposes.
Prepare research reports. Review and prepares management reports for clients.
Recruit and develop research staff to meet work requirements.
Make significant contributions to literature.
Make presentations at conferences participates in workshops and meetings and collaborates in specific areas of research. Represent university and/or unit as assigned or appropriate.
Network with professional counterparts inside and outside the university. Participate in professional associations to stay informed of new developments and technologies. Make recommendations to senior management regarding technology changes based on developments in field and business needs.
Maintain currency with technology standards and best practices. Supports process improvement efforts within the team and across the department.
Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

The annual base salary range for this position is up to $170000.
