Dutiesand Responsibilitiesof Teachers of the Deaf and Hard ofHearing(SpecialClass)
Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (Special Class) are responsible to the District Program Administrator (II) Aurally Handicapped Program.
The duties and responsibilities of Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing are as follows:
To tailor the individual students program to the students needs as dictated by the multiplicity and severity of students handicaps.
To use various educational methods for remediation of social/ learning difficulties.
To approach instruction with an understanding of physical/ emotional/mental involvements which affect the learning capabilities of hearinghandicapped children.
To establish in cooperation with the District Program Administrator (II) Aurally Handicapped Program standards of expected progress for individual students and techniques for continued assessment of progress which result in appropriate placement of the student(s).
To encourage educational and/or social integration of deaf and hardofhearing students with other students.
To become acquainted with existing pupil records and update them as required and to provide for the District other information that is requested.
To give direction to the aide assigned to the teacher toward the end that the aide becomes an effective paraprofessional teacher.
To attend the District Special Education Admissions and Discharge Committee meetings as needed.
To maintain communication with parents in order that they may understand the plan of amelioration and its effectiveness for the student(s) involved.
To use amplification with the students and see that hearing aids are working properly.
To complete an annual reevaluation of student progress for the District Special Education Admissions and Discharge Committee.

To attend jobrelated meetings and activities specified by the District Program Administrator (II) Aurally Handicapped Program.
To perform those noninstructional duties and responsibilities including supervisory and advisory duties as may be prescribed by the Board of Education.

Step placement is based on prior years of K12 teaching experience while in the possession of a valid teaching credential. At least 75 of a school year must have been served to count as a year of teaching experience. Classification is based on semester units completed after your Bachelors degree was issued. The maximum step placement for a new hire is Step 15 which means we can accept a maximum of fourteen years of prior experience (if you qualify for Class 4 placement).
