Athletics Assistant

Job Summary
The Burbidge Athletics Academic Center provides industry leading academic support services for over 500 studentathletes participating at the NCAA Division I level and within the athletic conference. The academic services team provides an environment where each studentathlete has the means to reach their academic potential through integrated and immersive learning opportunities. This position is an opportunity to work collaboratively with a team of industry professionals studentathletes coaches athletics administrators and campus partners to ensure our studentathletes graduate and receive their degree from the University of Utah. The Assistant Academic Support Specialist is a hybrid position as the position will work closely with both an assigned athletics academic advisor and learning specialist to provide academic services to an assigned caseload of studentathletes. This internship is unique in that it provides a combination of athletics academic advising and learning specialist experiences while developing a more experienced and wellrounded academic services support professional. Interns will become wellversed in the experiences and knowledge of academic advising learning support strategies disability services NCAA progress towards degree rules/eligibility while developing the necessary administrative skills to grow within the industry.

Responsibilities
Collaborate with athletics academic advisors and learning specialists to develop and implement individualized academic support plans. Develop the ability to identify academic concerns through formal and informal assessments. Monitor and report the academic progress of studentathletes while fostering academic accountability. Educate studentathletes to effectively communicate with professional etiquette in a university setting. Assist studentathletes in the development of short term/long term achievable academic goals. Develop a strong comprehension and understanding of NCAA continuing eligibility and progress towards degree rules and regulations in order to assist studentathletes in developing academic schedules to meet progress towards degree/graduation requirements. Develop a working knowledge of university degree requirements to assist studentathletes in maintaining college degree requirements while selecting classes for enrollment. Work closely with atrisk studentathletes to develop independent lifelong learners. Prepare daily/weekly academic updates to track the progress of assigned studentathletes while sharing with academic services team and coaches. Work with the Athletics Psychology & Wellness Team and the Center for Disability Services to assist in the implementation of academic accommodations. Understand and adhere to the rules and regulations specific to FERPA . Participate in a variety of professional training sessions and activities. Perform general administrative tasks and various projects as requested. Maintain an active schedule of weekly meetings with assigned caseload of studentathletes. Assist in the oversight of evening and weekend study hall activities in the Burbidge Athletics Academic Center. Develop a strong understanding of all things related to the mitigation of academic misconduct applicable to the athletics department the University of Utah the Big 12 Conference and the NCAA .

Minimum Qualifications
A valid Utah Drivers License or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills. Must be able to pass a background check. Departmentspecific Qualifications Bachelors Degree Required Ability to work independently in a fastpaced environment. Personable and highly organized. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Desire to obtain fulltime professional employment in the Athletics Academic Services Industry as either an Athletics Academic Advisor or Learning Specialist.
