Job Description

Salary:Currently $49638.36$92138.12 (DOE) Plus Sped Stipend (currently $1240.73 still being negotiated for.

Insurance:Generous Health dental and vision contribution from the district currently up to $2202 (based upon family coverage) prorated based upon FTE TBD for.

PERS Retirement:The district assumes and pays the 6 average employee contribution to the Oregon PERS system.

Schedule:190 Days 3 days new teacher inservice

JOB SUMMARY:

TheVIP teacher will provide comprehensive and specialized instruction to students ages 1821 who have disabilities and have received a modified or extended diploma. The position is responsible for coordinating various aspects of transition including providing specialized instruction related to career and life skills; creating a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth of every student; establishing effective rapport with students; motivating students to develop skills attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for becoming a responsible citizen in accordance with each pupils ability.

REPORTS TO:

Special Services Director

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assesses students transition needs using various inventories and assessments.
  • Implements an appropriate program of individualized functional skills instruction utilizing Districtadopted curriculum for students with severe disabilities while developing and implementing accommodations and researchbased instructional strategies.
  • Assist students with obtaining work experience opportunities in the community job placements in local businesses connections made with colleges as apporpritate.
  • Maintains records/files and meets timelines.
  • Develops Individualized Education Program (IEP) with students who are transition age and conducts Triennial meetings/activities.
  • Facilitates Person Centered Planning services for students. Follows up and monitors progress towards lifelong goals.
  • Develops and implements a system of continuous evaluation of each students progress.
  • Assists staff to assist students in maintaining appropriate work ethics and social skills.
  • Directs and models for paraprofessionals activities which include recruitment of potential clients analysis of work sites maintenance of tracking of skill progress collection of data gathering and organizing information for transition planning and followup for delivery of services.
  • Communicates effectively with students parents colleagues District representatives supervisors adult service agencies community members and others who have an interest in the overall achievement of young adults in our program.
  • Conducts meetings to address the needs of students that will support them to become independent and respected community members.
  • Participates in professional development activities and implements strategies as appropriate to meet pupil needs.
  • Keeps accurate class records including attendance records and lesson plans and completes necessary reports including IEPs in a timely manner.
  • Provides adequate information for substitutes.
  • Implements programadopted crisis prevention/intervention strategies to include the use of deescalating procedures and physical interventions as identified/described on a behavior support plan.
  • Adheres to District policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Hold First Aid and CPR certification
  • Ability to successfully complete and maintain District adopted crisis prevention/intervention programs
  • Valid Oregon drivers license required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Hold or qualify for an Oregon Teaching License through Teacher Standards and Practices Commission with a Special Education Endorsement.

Preferred experience or training in postsecondary Special Education and Transition of students in Special Education programs.
