JOB DESCRIPTION

School Nutrition Assistant

Reports to:

Cafeteria Manager and School Nutrition Program Director

Contract:

180 Days

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To work under the general supervision of the school nutrition program manager in performing a variety of duties in the kitchen and service areas.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Prefer some knowledge and experience in quantity food preparation and use of large kitchen equipment.
  2. Have the interest and ability to learn and work in all areas of the school meal program.
    Have the ability to work cooperatively with students and staff.
  3. Experience working with individuals from diverse racial ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds etc. preferred.
  4. Ability to engage a diverse student population (racial ethnic and socioeconomic) in order to foster supportive relationships.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Consistently display a neat and clean appearance through appropriate apparel and personal hygiene as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures.
  2. Use and follow posted schedules verbal instruction and standardized recipes.
  3. Prepare and serve all food according to instruction health department regulations and HACCP requirements.
  4. Clean all areas of kitchen according to health department regulations.
  5. Store all food according to health department regulations and HACCP requirements.
  6. Follow all instructions when using kitchen equipment.
  7. Cooperate with other employees school staff and students.
  8. Attend educational and inservice programs and meetings as requested by the cafeteria manager and/or director.
  9. Assist manager with promotional activities to encourage proper nutrition and participation in the school meal program.
  10. Travels to all city schools as needed as requested by the cafeteria manager and/or school nutrition program director.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned by the cafeteria manager and school nutrition program director.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Light work lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds walk use hands reach with hands and arms stoop kneel or crouch. Exposure to cleaning chemicals. Regular travel throughout the school and effectively interact with students staff and community members. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities; and subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Regular contact with staff members is required. Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on the evaluation of licensed personnel.
