Job Description

Job Title:

Assistant Principal of Academics

Contract Length:

225 Days

Reports To:

Principal

Supervises:



Primary Role:

The ideal candidate will work with school leaders to build and maintain a positive and safe school climate and carry out the schools academic programs and perform teacher evaluations attend and guide PLC meetings and work with data for overall student and staff growth. Further the candidate will work closely with school counselors and school personnel to develop a strong school culture in which students grow to exemplify our core values.

Required Experience:

  • B.A./B.S. degree from an accredited institution in education and/or a related field
  • Masters Degree in the specified content area (reading math etc. curriculum and instruction or administration
  • 5 years of experience in teaching or school administration
  • 1 years of experience in MTSS planning and implementation
  • 1 years of experience in successfully implementing a PBIS (or related) plan
  • Possession of a current North Carolina Professional Educators License

  4. Human Resource Leadership
    1. Ensures that processes and systems are in place that result in the recruitment induction support evaluation development and retention of a highperforming staff
    2. Creates processes for teachers to assume leadership and decisionmaking roles
    3. Provides for resultsoriented professional development
    4. Systematically and personally involves him/herself in the schools professional activities
  5. Managerial Leadership
    1. Ensures the school has processes and systems in place for budgeting staffing problem solving communicating expectations and scheduling that result in organizing the work routines of the school
    2. Develops the master schedule that provides collaborative planning for every teacher
    3. Develops and enforces clear expectations structures rules and procedures for students and staff
  6. External Development Leadership
    1. Designs structures and processes that result in community engagement support and ownership
    2. Creates a system that engages all community stakeholders in shared responsibility for student and school success
    3. Ensures compliance with state and TMSA mandates
  7. Micropolitical Leadership
    1. Builds systems and relationships with staff in order to leverage their expertise power and influence to realize the schools vision for success
    2. Creates environment and mechanisms to ensure all internal stakeholder voices are heard and respected
    3. Uses performance as the primary criterion for reward and advancement
  8. Academic Achievement Leadership
    1. Leaders work will result in acceptable measurable progress for students based on established performance expectations and will use appropriate data to demonstrate growth
    2. This area is based on a schoolwide student growth value as calculated by the statewide growth model for educator effectiveness

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follow all Board policies
  • Maintain confidentiality of all student parent and staff information
  • Collaborate with staff to plan the schools instructional program
  • Support and nurture a collaborative work environment for all employees
  • Practice fair and consistent evaluations of teachers within established timelines
  • Assist with recruiting and maintaining highquality staff
  • Maintain a good relationship with students staff and parents
  • Provides timely communication of information with staff parents and students
  • Communicates schools accomplishments within TMSA with school community and public media
  • Designs scheduling processes and protocols that maximize staff input and address diverse student learning needs
  • Collaborates with staff to create opportunities for parents community and businesses to participate in the school
  • Be easily accessible to staff
  • Maintain high visibility throughout the school
  • Effectively delegate tasks to others in a way that provides learning experiences for them and ensures the efficient operation of the school
  • Actively seeks and applies feedback from staff parents and students
  • Resolves shortterm issues while balancing them against longterm goals
  • Analyzes student performance data
  • Evaluates student progress in current instructional program using current student performance data
  • Effectively utilizes the latest technology to continuously improve the management of the school and enhance student instruction
  • Manage your time and that of your staff well including running effective meetings
  • Monitors and works to improve student and staff attendance
  • Maintains acceptable student behavior in all areas of the school
  • Establishes and maintains a safe environment for all staff and students
  • Perform teacher formal and informal evaluations
  • Other duties as assigned by Principal
