(currently the Director of Special Education)
Job Objectives:
- Collaborates with building staff and administrators to provide support and guidance for the implementation of their culture and climate initiatives and positive behavior and intervention support practices and programs.
- Collaborates with building staff and administrators to ensure students with IEPs and 504 Plans are receiving services and supports.
- Collaborates with community partners to facilitate successful careerfocused learning and transition activities. Promotes an effective learning environment.
- Encourages program innovations: Promotes close working relationships with parents student staff employers and other agencies.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid State of Ohio administrative certificate/license appropriate for the assignment.
- Meets all mandated health requirements.
- Provides documented evidence of a clear criminal record.
- Previous experience as an Intervention Specialist Behavior Specialist Transition Coordinator or school psychologist preferred.
- Must possess the ability to work effectively in an instructional setting with middle school and high school students and teaching staff.
- Expertise in the identification and use of curricular materials and instructional strategies for providing specially designed instruction and postsecondary transition goals and services.
- Strong acumen of the IEP process and federal and state special education civil rights and disability laws required.
- Must possess or be eligible to receive the Transition to Work teaching endorsement.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Works with maintains ongoing communication and keep Director of Student Services informed about emerging issues and matters.
- Provide coordination of appropriate services for the special education and behavioral services and programs as outlined by the Director of Student Services.
- Primary concentration on each buildings culture and climate and administering the necessary instruction support coaching and modeling of positive behavior intervention and support.
- Serve as a support and liaison to students with disabilities (both IEPs and 504 Plans) being educated remotely Home Instruction and in alternative settings.
- Attend IEP and 504 meetings for Sidney City School students being educated outside of the district as District Representative Coordinator of Student Services Job Description.
- Writes IEPs for students attending the Nicholas School and Center for Autism and Dyslexia.
- Ability to identify emerging employment trends and profile trainings characteristics.
- Ability to organize community support for the schooltocareer/adult living program and student assimilation activities.
- Expertise in the identification and use of educational options auxiliary services and curricular materials that address the educational needs of program participants.
- Attend Manifestation Determination meetings and Expulsion Hearings as necessary
- Serve as a support and resource to Intervention Specialists families and community members of students with disabilities in middle school and high school across all settings to help support their PostSecondary Transition Goals and Transition Activities.
- Helps to interview potential candidates for special education and preschool positions as needed.
