Job Description
Title: Custodian I
Classification Title: Substitute Custodian
Calendar: B Year Round
ESP Salary Schedule: Range 30 Step 1
Hours: Vary
Location: District Wide
GENERAL PURPOSE
Responsible for the general maintenance and operation of the school building. Duties include substituting for Custodian II during absences and/or vacancies to maintain repair and/or operate the school building equipment and grounds.
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedure.
- Clean dust and wipe furniture; sweep mop or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; replace light bulbs; refill restroom dispensers.
- Assist with the setup of facilities for meetings classrooms conferences events etc.
- Strip clean buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors vacuum and shampoo carpets.
- Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools; buffers auto scrubbers extractors high speed buffers and vacuums brooms mops and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors walls carpets furniture etc.
- Wash walls and equipment; use ladders when required in work assignments.
- Lock and unlock assigned buildings: secure building when facilities are not in use checking for unlocked doors and windows report any unauthorized occupants turn off lights.
- Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies.
- Move furniture equipment supplies and tools on an incidental basis.
- Wash accessible interior and exterior windows clean blinds and launder cleaning rags and dust mops.
- Report major damages to Maintenance Department for repair.
- Attend to emergencies when necessary.
- Attend safety meetings and other related meetings.
- Take classes as required in cleaning methods and techniques new products First Aid CPR and working relationships.
- Handle recycling materials.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- No related experience required.
- Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances.
- Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- The job regularly requires above average strength and/or stamina. Job duties may involve lifting and carrying of heavy materials/objects 50100 pounds).
- Occasionally work is carried out in disagreeable conditions. Exposure to adverse working conditions inclement weather dirt/dust noise or fumes and/or exposure to possible accidents health hazards or minor injuries product an environment that involves adjusting to or accommodating these uncomfortable conditions.
