Job Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE: To help provide a better physical learning environment that is safe and attractive for all students and staff in the District.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education/Certification:
High School Diploma or GED
Able to read and comprehend verbal and written instructions of supervisor
able to complete written reports as necessary to the functions of this assignment.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Demonstrated success in performing a wide variety of tasks requiring an understanding and proficiency in all aspects of Roofing Industry and minor carpenter skills
Possess a valid Texas Class C drivers license and prove insurability with the Districts insurance carrier;
Ability to read plans and blueprints
Demonstrated ability to work and get along with people.

Minimum Experience:
3 years of carpenter and roofing experience.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Perform roofing repairs on the following roofing materials Modified Built TPO (Thermoplastic) PVC (PolyPlastic) Builtup Gravel Metal and Shingle systems.
Record all materials used and man hours worked on projects and keep the Structural Foreman informed on job costs.
Inspect problems roofs to determine the best repair procedures
Cover exposed nail heads screws and fasteners with roofing compounds or caulking to prevent water leakage or rust.
Perform roof inspections of contractors to ensure that the system is being applied per specification. Process the ability to use small power tools torches and heat guns.
Flash around vent stacks pitch pans curbs exhaust and heat stacks.
Give onthejob instruction and training to carpenters and helpers;
Practice high standards of safety in performance of all duties;
Respond to pages in a timely manner while serving oncall duty;
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Carpenter Lead or as directed by supervisors with the line of authority in the Facilities Department.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
No supervisory responsibilities.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problemsolving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decisionmaking. Frequent indistrict and occasional instate or national travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
  • Ability to lift and carry 55 or more pounds without assistance; continual moderate lifting and carrying 15 55 pounds); occasional reaching above shoulder level; continuous use of fingers; continual standing and walking; frequent bending and stopping; ability to climb ladders; and frequent operation of a motor vehicle; ability to distinguish basic colors.
  • Ability to work outdoors and indoors; occasional need to work above and below ground; exposure to heat cold and humidity; exposure to asbestos containing materials grease and oils solvents and electrical energy; and exposure to machinery with moving parts.
  • Safety: Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training wearing personal protective equipment as required reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
